I think I got it resolved. I thought my VOIP not functioning was an unrelated issue; but apperently it was the issue. After turning of the VOIP button, all my problems went away.

I can verify the 8 minute load time. Some people DO have this issue and it IS related to hard drive setting. I freind of mine has a dell system and installed a new HD. It installed fine, hiwever, he installed BF2 on the new drive and his load times went from 90 seconds to 8 minutes. He checked and the drive was set to PIO mode and he couldn't change it.
After he brought the computer to me, I figured it out. For some reason the BIOS didn't detect the HD but XP still did, which I thought was weird, but anyway, once the BIOS was set to detect the drive and I rebooted into windows I was able to set the frive to UDMA and all was peachy.
I can't beleive there are assholes above who would say that the poster is full of shit when they have no experience with the problem. This guy posted the thread hoping to help people. If you don't have anything positive to add to the thread, keep your trap shut, the players who really need help with a problem like this would appriciate it.

I know my issue isn't a network issue, I get the same laggy mouse in single player. I use a belking n52 speedpad for movement, I should try uninstalling that to see if that is the culprit.
Hmmm. I'll have to try 1024x768. I've been (maybe foolishly) trying to run at higher resolutions like 1280x960? and 1600x1200 with know AA. I'll try 1024x768 with and w/o AA to see if that solves my issues.
Thanks.
Thanks.
-=5TON3D , what is your videocard? It seems you, EricTViking and I all have the same issue and at lease two of us have a x1900 series card.
All the above suggestions are good. My monitor is a url=http://www.viewsonic.com/support/desktopdisplays/crtmonitors/proseries/pf790/]Bad ASS Professional quality AG[/url] (Best monitor I've ever owned and I think it's my 9th)
-=5TON3D I'm glad re-installing the game worked for you. I may try the same. It sounds like master_blaster_josh should try that also.
If that doesn't work, I may take a 1GB stick out of my HTPC and drop it in this PC for a trial.

I don't need more RAM. I've playted glitch free at lower settings with 512MB RAM and a ATi 9500 video card.Widjerd wrote:

I am much more interested in adjusting a setting rather than buying RAM. I may not be able to play with all high settings with 1GB of RAM. What video settings affect system RAM?
HaywoodJablowme, thanks fo the advice. I may end up re-installing windows to see if that helps if its a game issue, maybe somethings alittle f'd up.

I just got the x1900GT and have had some weird mouse lag type issues. When I stop moving or when I turn fast I keep moving/turning for a half second when I stop. I also have slight glitching issues where the screen freezes slightly.
These problems occur at high settings and more so at 1600x1200. If you have a similar set-up what are your settings to see if I can run adaquately run at the same settings. I'm trying to troubleshoot whether there is a problem with my set-up or if I am just expecting too much from my system.
Thanks.

Thanks for the help. I think for at least t trial run, using a system based RAM Drive might be in the future.
I originally looked into ramdrives several years ago when building a HTPC. That was going to have windows loaded on the ramdisk. That device was a rocketdrive from Cenatek and it actuall drew power from the PSU while the computer was off to store files almost indefinetly. This gigabyte product is something different, in which your right, has a battery.
I wouldn't load windows on the drive; just bf2, any additional space I'd set as the swap file. There are also software ramdrives that would work using the system memory (This is actually the origin of ramdrives). The problem would be each time you reboot, your ramdrive would start empty. You'd simply have to set a batch file or script to copy your install back over to the ramdrive before you fired up the game.
The end goal would to be in-game quickly, to gain tactical advantage. And hopefully decrease in-game jitters as aditional textures are cached or loaded.

I searched for RAMDRIVE and iRAM & rocketdrive.
Gigabyte has a solid state ram drive that holds up to 4GB of RAM. I'm wondering how much my load times would improve if I bought a ram drive mounted it, throw a BF2 install on it and load the game and maps from there?

Nice post superfly_cox. Very well thought out. I have to say however that you are discounting knowledge (or exp as you call it. I guess I hark back to the days of D&D; but I digress) a little too much.
Knowledge is of supreme import. If you look at just about any players spm graph, you will notice a linear progression of increasing spm. If knowledge was as invaluable as you say, the curve would be moe af a log starting low and increasing at a fast clip (as the player gets to know the game) and then tailing flat rather quickly. All graphs of players spm should theoretically eventually end up with this appearence, but it seems the graphs are much more linear than you would think. This shows that as players gain knowledge over time their spm increases.
We know it can't be an increase in intelligence. You could argue the skill level is increasing due to practice, but I beleive it is primarilly a function of knowledge (and experience).
I'd say:
1. Knowledge - you know it in your heart you own those freaking noobs. Why? b/c of experience!
2. Intelligence - If you face a great twitchy skilled stupid player, you will win.
3. Skill - yes it is important, you must be able to execute properly. This maybe 1st if we were playing Unreal Tournament or Medal of Honor or CounterStrike; but not in BF2.
What pisses you off more? When you get owned by some one who outsmarted you or when you get owned b/c you weren't fast enough or good enough?

Loooks like I have to hurry and get the my vet Support before I dl the new patch!
OK let me try to explain the three better. Yes they are all related. But let us disect:
Knowledge: Without knowledge would be like the first time you played a new map with new weapons. Like the first day you played special forces or Euro force. No idea of the capabilities of the weapons no clue on the spots to avoid in a map, or not knowing the 'back way' to a flag etc. Do you remember getting own'd by the guy who's played that map before?
Intelligence: Thinking. Example - When a tank rolls upand smokes you, knowing when to respawn and fight or switch to a different spawn point. Knowing what would be more effecitive in a situation, spawn as spec. ops. or spawn as AT? That tank is expecting me to come up behind him from the right, but if I run to the left....
Skill: pure execution - two guys run into each other rounding a corner, do you kill him or does he kill you? You spawn and immediately start getting shot from behind, however, your skill kicks in and you spin prone and cap that mofo.

You are correct, but chew on this, your skill is inhernt and although it does increase with useage, it doesn't ramp up as fast as your knowledge once you start playing a new game, yet everyone's spm start out poorly and then increase over time. I think that is mainly the knowledge effect.jord wrote:
If you cant point a gun in a shooting game then your fucked.I voted skill because even if you know the map off by heart ,know were your enemies are if you cant hit them with bullets then knowledge wont get you very far.
I was killed by a guy in my squad with the green name bug last night, I was confused and forgot to get a screenie. Anyway, he was MEC, he spawned on me, he had a green name, and he was in my squad in the squad list. Pissed me off.
I am personally glad you started this thread with green name in the title. I don't think the real forum police will be mad, the others can screw off.

What in your opinion is your greatest asset, knowing the map and your competition, your l33t skillz, your cognizence of your surroundings, uncanny ability to know what to do next. Is BF2 for the player with the mad skillz, for the gronard with 1000 hours, or is it the thinking man's FPS?
It's obviously a combination of all three, don't be a wuss and pick one.
Please provide an explanation or example.

Great guide. I hope you can find these ideas helpful:
APC as a *ding ding* Armored PERSONNEL Carrier! Have you ever been MEC commander on Karkand when an APC rolls up to your asset base? 4 guys hop out, cap your flag, blow your assets and you are fucked, especially if they stay and defend it.
How to not get own'd by Spec. Ops. This is important for the solo APC'er, Always be moving, always keep your 'head on a swivel' rotate around watching for spec. ops. those little bastards will blow you up quick if your not watching. When capping a flag, rotate though your cameras, I find it effective to use the 3rd person rear view when capping flags, the crafty spec. ops. will think he is unseen when he walks up behind you. A quick step on the reverse and you have a squashed spec. ops.
APC as infantry support. Use your infantry wisely, stay somewhat in a pack of frendlies. You can protect them as a moving barrier to advance to the next flag. You can be support or medic and effectively help support your team. Take out the biggest infantry threats like the guy sitting in a vodnik mowing down your teammates. Once you start owning, the enemy will start spawning as spec. ops. and/or anti-tank. This is when your group of freindlies are needed in keeping you alive.
When you are a solo APC'er be anti-tank when you meet the tank and he doesn't see you, your first shot should be from your Eryx, hop back in and then shoot the missle, then the cannon should finish him off before he can get a second (or maybe even a first) shell off.
If your not in a convoy, know where your other armor is. I've been in a few scrapes, where I get 'chased' by a tank. It is very easy to lead an enemy tank into the waiting barrel of your tank if you know the map well.
Don't ignore the APC if someone else is driving it. Spawn as anti-tank and hop in the APC. An APC with an anti-tank as a passenger, should be able to take out a tank fairly easily. I also love it when your a passenger and once again a bastard spec. ops. come up behind you and you blast him with the pea shooters.
And for god's sake when you are infantry, spot enemy armor, it makes 5x easier to kill enemy armor when you know its coming.

How can anyone possibly find joy in statpadding for a badge? Doesn't that make it empty? The expert badges are supposed to be near impossible. If you don't cheat, you will get the badge when you EARN it. Think of the satisfaction you will have upon reaching your goal and measure that against how shallow you are if you stat pad to get it.x0pht wrote:

I'm dissapointed that they are so quick to wipe stats, they set unrealistic goals for certain badges such as War College ribbon, or gettin 25 heals iar for expert first aid (i still cant get this one....) and when people find ways to get the badges they wipe their stats and make them look like criminals. I agree that SOME people down right cheat and need to be punished, but EA seems quick to act on those that might be only trying to get a badge that seems near impossible. On top of this i also disagree with some of their changes as they patch, they seem to cater to the crybabies in forums (you being one??) that scream HAX at anyone who kills them with a gl.... when they were holding a pistol. I think we can all agree BF2 is NOT a realistic game... if you want realism go play AA or join the marines for gods sake.... its a game. They dont all need to be realistic to be fun, did everyone cry when super mario could jump 30 feet in the air and smash a goomba??? no... so why cry about bf2 being un-realistic? It was EA's choice to make BF2 an arcade style FPS, not a true to life war game, if thats not your cup of coffee play something else, quit crying, and let them patch to fix the actual problems. Just my 2 cents....
I own both the n50 and the n52. I use the n52 all the time for gaming. Once you get used to it it is much more comfortable than a standard keyboard. A couple of notes:\
The thumb botton below the 8 point directional pad sticks if you do't hit it in the center. This is so bad I don't use the button at all. The directional pad sticks in the forwward position, again to the point where I don't use it.
The orange button above the 8 point directional pad takes too much force to depress. I use that button for squadspeak.
Other than those issues, I still use and love the n52.

There is no way you should have to pad to get this badge. IF you ever play a large map that is not full, you spend most your time driving around capping flags. Easy badge, and legit w/o padding.
What are the new unlocks going to be? I love the DAO-12 for A/T, but the Sniper needs something better!
Holy shit I figured it out!
My friend has SF and my son and I went to his house. My son was bored and he logged on to his account and played a couple sf maps while we were there.
That is so friggin cool!
So does that mean all of us without sf can get the extra unlocks if we go to someone's place with sf and play a map or 2!

I always have a beer on hand. BF2 is great for drinking. Ther are lots of opportunities to take a swig or two. While respawning, riding in the back of an APC, chopper, etc. Running across a big map to next flag, etc, etc.
I used to play alot of Medal of Honor, and there is NO time to drink, its one of the reasons i switched to BF2!

His account is: 917382645 NOTE that is not his PID (which is: 59532807 ) http://bf2s.com/player/59532807/ Don't ask me why he picked that name.
Anyway, neither him nor I have SF and when he reached sgt. he got two unlocks. Not only did he get 2 unlocks, he was able to unlock the G36E and has used it on ranked servers.
Has this happened to you? and how do I get it to happen to me!
btw, my son is 10 and doesn't use any hacks, cheats, or any of that nonsense.
