  • x1900GT glitchiness what settings should I be running at?

I just got the x1900GT and have had some weird mouse lag type issues.  When I stop moving or when I turn fast I keep moving/turning for a half second when I stop.  I also have slight glitching issues where the screen freezes slightly.

These problems occur at high settings and more so at 1600x1200.  If you have a similar set-up what are your settings to see if I can run adaquately run at the same settings.  I'm trying to troubleshoot whether there is a problem with my set-up or if I am just expecting too much from my system.

Thanks.

I think it may be a problem with the game itself.  I just got a 7600GT, running at 1024x768, and been running on high for the most part with no problems.  Just in the last few days I've noticed a stutter every now and then like you described with no change in ping.  Didn't change any settings, and my temps are all fine, it just does it on some servers and on others with a worse ping it doesn't.  So who knows.

I don't need more RAM.  I've playted glitch free at lower settings with 512MB RAM and a ATi 9500 video card.

I am much more interested in adjusting a setting rather than buying RAM.  I may not be able to play with all high settings with 1GB of RAM.  What video settings affect system RAM?

HaywoodJablowme, thanks fo the advice.  I may end up re-installing windows to see if that helps if its a game issue, maybe somethings alittle f'd up.

Mine used to freeze the controls too, but for almost 30 seconds at some times.  After I upgraded to 2 GB from 1GB it stopped doing that retarded shit.  I definately recommend another gig even if you don't think an insufficient amount of RAM is the problem.  It's just overall better for the computer, it improved the quality of the picture and the sound, less lag, no more "loss of control" glitch either unless you're running a lot of background tasks.

i think its the game fucking up,recently fixed some bad mouse lag i suddenly had few days ago, never had it before, nothing new on my system to have caused it,tried reinstalling mouse driver, cleared game cache & rest of the junk still same.
reinstalled bf2,sf & stuff & its fixed it.played for 2 nights now & no probs, where before it'd lag/not turn sideways/keep turning or moving lol thaught my mouse was possessed.

bf2's sorted now so thaught i'd mention it.

Borrow a gig of ram from a friend if you can just to test with.  You'll see right away that the hiccups will be gone.

All the above suggestions are good.  My monitor is a url=http://www.viewsonic.com/support/desktopdisplays/crtmonitors/proseries/pf790/]Bad ASS Professional quality AG[/url]  (Best monitor I've ever owned and I think it's my 9th)

-=5TON3D I'm glad re-installing the game worked for you.  I may try the same.  It sounds like master_blaster_josh should try that also.

If that doesn't work, I may take a 1GB stick out of my HTPC and drop it in this PC for a trial.

Athlon 4200+ X2 ( AMD Drivers Installed & Run BF2 on CPU 0 only )
2 Gigs RAM
Radeon X1900

I'm  also getting lag / stuttering that I haven't noticed up until a few days ago.

Seems to be worse when I'm in a close in fight and am frantically trying to maneuver for a kill. It happened several times tonight on Dragon Valley, one time I nearly lost my connection so not sure whether its more related to network issues.

When I get it, my cross-hairs seem to jump all over the place. If I try to turn slightly my view jumps amost 180 degrees.

Think I'll try -=5TON3D's idea and re-install BF2.

if you aint re'installed yet dont bother unless you wanna try it anyway as a last resort, mines started doing it again & its pissing me off.

hav'nt played bf2 for a couple of days & fancied a game tonight so went on my fave server & started ice skating slightly trying to line myself up in my usual spot to make sure i get in the jet first lol, funny to have recorded if i had frapps running but annoying at the time.
gave in after 2 rounds just couldnt be arsed to put up with delayed reactions when walking & trying to stop exactly where needed.server crashes are bad enough to live with.

one thing i have done since reinstall though that might possibly have affected my controls again,is i updated punkbuster which i do now & then using the manual update app so's to lessen the lag ingame letting bf2 update itself, never know could be a punkbuster bug but i've not heard of anyone having pb bugs in this way before so i dont know, just another guess at trying to fix my mouse/controls prob so i'm gonna look into it further.

-=5TON3D , what is your videocard?  It seems you, EricTViking and I all have the same issue and at lease two of us have a x1900 series card.

BTW my network connection is via a Netgear WG111T 108Mbit USB WiFi adapter. My access point is a Netgear DG834GT.

What network setup do you  have?

PS. The WG111T is a pile of dog toffee and I'm going to swap it out for something else when I get a chance.

Hmmm.  I'll have to try 1024x768.  I've been (maybe foolishly) trying to run at higher resolutions like 1280x960? and 1600x1200 with know AA.  I'll try 1024x768 with and w/o AA to see if that solves my issues.

Thanks.

Quick update...

I reckon that my glitching was caused by the Netgear WG111T USB WiFi dongle I am using.

Last night I reverted the drivers back from 1.3 to 1.2, and instead of using built in Windows WiFi configuration I used the supplied Netgear configuration app.

WiFi is now running at 54Mbps instead of 108 Mbps and I haven't had any glitches since changing things...

I'll post back when I know whether I fixed it or not.

soz for the late reply,my cards a bfg 6600gt oc agp so it's not your card causing it.
i've sorted my prob for sure this time, turned out it was having voip enabled without having a mic plugged in,dissabling it fixed the lag.
been playin for the last week now & my games running perfect again,no more mouse sticking when turning or delayed movements & my ping has stopped spiking into the 100's & its stable at 15-20 on local uk servers like it used to be.

my system spec's. (default clock speeds)
6600gt oc agp (128meg)
amd 4000+
2x512 ddr 2700 (running duel channel)
msi k8n neo 2 ultra mobo

bf2 settings.
1024x768  85hz
all medium other than shadows/texture filtering on low & view to 100%. oh & aa/af dissabled.
average fps 70-100 (fps drops in the 70's when loads of action/arty goin on).

...and another thing

I'm using a Razer Diamonback mouse and found that I had trouble getting it set 'just right'. It seemed a bit jumpy and not that precise. As an example if I tried to aim at someones head, the crosshair would jump eitehr side of their head but was a bugger to get spot on. I decided to re-install the Razer mouse drivers but wanted to remove the old ones and reboot first.

After I rebooted I tried the game with the Razer Diamonback mouse and the vanilla Windows drivers and voila! The mouse ran as smoothly as a baby's arse! Now I am just using the M$ mouse drivers and my score per minute is rising again

I read a FAQ on Razers site that said you may need to raise the thread priority of a couple of mouse driver related processes to high in order to combat CPU time starvation on resource intensive games. If I did this it would mean I'd have to fire up BF2, use task manager to set BF2.exe affinity to CPU zero and then set thread priorities of mouse driver processes to high.  Knickers to that! Just un-install the Razer software and job's a good-un.

A bit off topic regarding the X1900 but might help someone that has the glitches ;-)

S'ok I'm not talking to myself...

Just thought I'd mention that the driver reversion listed above did not work *bugger*.

Have got a Belkin 802.11g USB dongle in the PC now and will give that a go and report back.

Right - this is getting on my tits now. The Belkin WiFi dongle lasted about as long as it took to write this post, because when I clicked "Submit" I realised the frikkin thing had dropped out already.

Right, the Netgear is back online and I'm off to Karkand to take it out on someone else ;-)

I know my issue isn't a network issue, I get the same laggy mouse in single player.  I use a belking n52 speedpad for movement, I should try uninstalling that to see if that is the culprit.
