I'd like to borrow & mutate a phrase from the pro-gun lobby and say:
Religions don't commit crimes, people commit crimes.
Of course, you've got to be careful with your religion, don't let your kids play with religion unsupervised and teach them proper respect for religion.
Responsible religious people keep their religion under lock and key when it's not in use.

An excelent application of the "people kill people" argument used by the neocons!

My thoughts too. But the people who use religion as an excuse usually aren't doing what their religion's creator would want.sfarrar33 wrote:

Religion isn't the cause of any war, it's only the justification.
Freaking Atheists, starting their crusades and what not.
Religious people have clearly commited the worst crimes in history. That may well change as religion becomes less and less important in world politics and as more people stop practicing any sort of religion.
Who has commited attrocities who was not religious? Really you are only talking about the later half of the 20th century and more recently. Even Hitler was religious. The question is who has commited the worst crimes, a minority of people over the past 100 years or everybody else throughout history? You also have to remember the world used to be a much more brutal place (not saying it's a utopia today, but it was worse).
It's quite a silly question really, because it is such an obvious answer. If the question was who will be responsible for more horrific crimes, religious people or atheists that might make for a more interesting debate.

just because of the sheet stupidity of this thread.
how about this one:
Who has commited the most crimes?
Liberals or Democrats?
Not fair is it?
Neither is this thread.
categorically, it might be fair, but in perspective, its not.
Religious people might have committed to most crimes. but lets go into more details.
Violent religions
Peaceful regligions
violent athiests
non-violent athiests.
Also, Hitler cannot/should be considered a Christian. No way, because obviously he didnt follow the rules and guidelines. FFS he killed Jews and everybody. So, you can rule out his religion. Maybe cult.........
If you read the poll and the first post I never gave my opinion about this, and the 3 options are:
Religious People, Agnostic/Atheist People, Both, very fair to me. I didn't point a gun to people to vote for religious dudes.
there is violent and non violent religions, you cannot put them together, thats bullshit. and unfair. as i said before.
so explain to me how you can put extremist terrorists, aka muslims(not all, im talking extremist muslims) in with Christians and have them in the same group?

If you could count, probably 98% of people who have ever lived have been religious. I think that makes it pretty obvious. For all intents and purposes, atheism is fairly rare. It takes a pretty advanced civilization to produce atheists, and there haven't been many of those.
Have religious people or atheists done more good deeds in the world?
Almost 20% of the people is agnostic/atheist. That's today. I can't say in the past. But 20% seems like 1,2 billion people.weamo8 wrote:

Now, you couldnt vote non-religious, because you are non-religious. So what do you have to say for yourself? Besides Hitler, since he is ruled out anyway... he wasnt religious, im calling cult.....
Now both could be an answer. I voted both, because they have both cause a number of issues. Then by themselves, not that big of a problem, but when you get them together there is conflict. See? So the only possibly answer is both.
Unless you are talking about which has cause more problems... but you couldnt, because if you were, 'both' couldnt be an answer.

I agree there are more good people than bad people, but I still believe the worst atrocities in history were done mostly by religious people, exceptions made.Des.Kmal wrote:
