This has been discused before, I wonder what you think...

Should the ways of a holy book (Ex. the Holy Bible/ the Koran) affect the laws of a country, and that church and government should be intertwined, or would you like to have government far away from chruch, and vice versia...

Ok, here is a serious related thing....laws in the US are based upon word from the bible. Magna carta signed 1412. Written based on certain things from the bible..Model parlaiment-based on magna carta. english bill of rights- based on the prior 2.

Those three documents are the basis for american law today, and the basis of the constitution.

laws in the us are only based on the bible to the extent that the bible condemns some common sense things like murder and theft. this should not be mistaken for a constitution based upon the religious principles of the bible.

laws change, religious texts are ancient and immutable. holy books make poor sources of law because they are inconsistent and often completely inapplicable to modern life.

the above links to google streaming video of the bible episode of penn and teller's show, 'bullshit.' it's a decent analysis of the inconsistencies of the bible and why using it for law or taking it literally makes no sense.

If laws were based on religion we wouldn't be able to enjoy the finer things in life such as booze, drugs or pornography.

The rules on the above are strict enough.

Just because something is written in a "holy" book, it does not mean that it would not be true had that "holy" book not been written.

Example: "Thou shalt not steal" is true whether or not it had been written in a book. It can be proved true by experiment. Societies in which it is legal to steal fail.

The scary thing of religion being a part of government is that the languages that holy books are written are never definitive. One phrase could mean several different things, and everyone would interpret them on their own. And then their are the logical contradictions in the various holy books. Just take a look at all the various sects and denominations in any major religion.  Men wrote the holy books you read today. Some of them may have been good men, or bad men. Especially with the problem that many books are supposedly written or guided by the god of that religion. Which means that only one was truly written/guided by a god, or that there is no god, or that there are many gods. Which takes us into the realm of philosophy, and just is more questions after questions.

Under 2 conditions-the people voted for it, and the borders are very open.  That way, anybody who feels pissed off about that country's laws can move to a non-religious country.  This would solve a great number of problems.
