With good pilot there shouldn't come that much those close combat actions that you really need to shoot with MG any vehicle. With training you can hit with every single TV missile and that farer that enemy vehicle is, that easier it's shoot down with TV missile, nothing else is so annoying that pilot is "giving" you shoot but he/she is aiming too down and you are too close

One thing that people often seem to be ignorant of is that when you are in the pilot's seat, the indicator that shows you which way your gunner is looking is ALSO the position of the TV missile crosshair. Good pilots set up their gunners for TV shots by lining up this box over the tank.

That is one of the most useful pilot hints I've read in a while.  Post that in a chopper pilots section please.

Go Medic, or Engineer, or Support. Do not go the other classes.

Can't believe this hasn't been covered in more depth yet in this thread. Yes Support is fine because you can re-supply with ammo, provided you can find somewhere safe to land and risk buggy collisions to resupply the chopper, yes Engineer the same to repair the chopper - but in both cases flying to the nearest helipad or supply crate is usually quicker and your pilot generally doesn't want to have to go leave the action entirely to stop somewhere and wait. The big advantage to going Engineer is if you have voice communication with your pilot you can ask him to hover over friendly vehicles or assets and you'll get repair points, he'll get special ability points.

But my tip is to go Medic. Better yet both gunner and pilot go Medic.

Now you can take a sniper hit to the body and live to tell about it. Certain explosions near the cockpit won't kill you and see your chopper crash or worse still gift the chopper to the enemy. Protracted dogfights that stray out-of-bounds will see your chopper victorious. And lastly and most importantly, when hopping out to aid in flag capture you often bump down slightly too hard or get bumped by the chopper as you get out, and if you are both a medic then that is no problem at all.

you forgot one thing that makes gunning a thousand time seasier

actually i'm not sure if you forgot it as i skimmed for it and didn't see it..
but...

if you press f9 once you get in the gunner's seat or press it twice if you change views any other time you will remove all the graphics of the chopper itself from your first person view and have only the crosshair left, making gunning much easier since your field of vision is larger and you can see spots that your gun can get to that were previously obscured by the graphics

A friend and i really like to fly the chopper while talking to each other over msn.

A few more tips that might work for others aswell (maybe its not as usefull if you ant talk to each other):
-Your tv missle goes a long way (even after the 1.12 patch), it goes past your viewing dictance so the gunner is actually able to look ahead with its tv missle. If you're not sure if that aa site is manned or not, or you're not sure if a tank is waiting for your approach... hoover for a bit and let the gunner shoot the tv missle to see if there are tanks/ manned aa site or other red marks that are waiting to be killed. If its a good gunner he will be able to get a kill this way aswell.

-When in a dog fight, the gunner should make it his first priority to keep spotting the enemy chopper every 3-4 seconds. Its nice to bring its health down with the MG, but if your pilot has no idea where that enemy chopper went, he isnt able to help you.
When im in a dogfight while having a mediocre gunner with me... all he does is shoot his MG while i am making crazy turns and trying to see where the chopper went -specially in the MEC chopper since the US is able to make faster turns-. Then after we get shot down the gunner complains to me that i didnt line him up for a tv missle.... Cant make a line up if i dont know where the enemy is!!
(But maybe i just need more flying hours to improve my turns and dog fight skills)

-If you are going to be a gunner and you have no way to talk to your pilot, fire a tv missle as soon as you can (no matter if you have a target, as long as you dont make a tk). This way your pilot knows it will be usefull to line you up to an enemy transport heli carrying 6 kills.
Many times i tried to line my gunner up only to see him firing his MG... You're better off being alone in a chopper than with a gunner who doesnt know his tv missle.

I just wish more gunners would read up on how to operate the TV missle. 

Most of the noobs I get into my chopper act like they don't even know that the missle is there or when they shoot the TV, it flys straight as an arrow.  My favorite is when they shoot at a tank with the guns.  Yeah!  That's gonna work!

When I see that, I just fly like I don't have a gunner.

For the NOOBS, I'd like to make it clear.  THE TV MISSLE IS NOT A FIRE AND FORGET WEAPON.  YOU, the gunner must guide theTV to the target.

Personal experiance - In the havoc you can use the MG against armour - I counted 19 rounds to the front tracks before +4 points.  It's a good thing to practice on a map like sharqi; where's buildings or tight flying can hinder a good TV shot - it's heavily dependant on the pilots style, up close the MG will be your best friend from that lovely splash damage. Whereas if the pilot prefers the clouds then TV away.
