No seriously... I think 50 years is not enough to bring the US down from where they stand... sharing their present status with China is more likely. Of course, if future governments continue to act the same as the Bush administration, anything is to be expected...

right now I say China, seeing as they just passed the 1 trillion dollar trade surplus mark. The US has barely a 10th of that figure. This may all change if and when the value of the yuan enters the realm of reality. It'll be fun to watch. China has some major growing pains they have yet to experience.
I think we need more superpowers in the system. The current system is so unstable its ridiculous, China would be a nice check to the US. Help mellow US out a bit.
Will be China, and Russia supplying the chinese military will lead to them being a superpower also. Usa will fall to third and then world war 3 :0
Personally i think there will be multiple world powers.
the USA will definately remain a world power, but it will definately have to share the limelight with China. India will be just off, if not a super power by then, and with both china and india on the rise, Russia will certainly be finding form again - but will not be the power it was during Soviet times.
If the Middle East calms down, a coalition of middle eastern countries will definately be a major power - possibly even more powerful than the EU

Where's the 'Both US and China option'?

Gonna be multiple super powers, most likely the US, the EU and China... and sorry to say, Arab states will never unite, too much hatred between them
I don't know what the hell I was thinking, there will be no super power, just concentrated groups of survivors fending off the zombies after the monkeys infected with rage escape and bite people. Eventually the zombies will all die off from lack of food, and a new agrarian society will pop up.
After a few generations of surviving enough of a food base will allow for specialization and larger groups will become dominant and take over weaker neighboring groups through assimilation or war fare. Soon empires begin to form, and an arms race begins, not to design new weapons, but to collect all the weapons from before z-day. Soon one empire gets the idea to infect POW's with rage and use them as labor, all it takes is a stick with a bit of human flesh hanging from the end to get the zombies to move, and plow fields and keep mills running. This will infuriate all neighboring states and empires and start WW3. It will be a nasty war, with the one country using the rage virus to infect enemy troops. Soon the war ceases to matter as everyone has to fight the zombies and society collapses into nothing again.
Wash, rinse, repeat.

well seeing how the EU actually has more GDP then the US now. it's not hard for me to not imagine them being a elite superpower in less then 15 years. Of course they wouldnt trout that claim as much as the US or Russia might
and yes china def is up and coming, but they are a HUGE oil consuming country, which soon will out pace ours, and hopefully that will be there downfall on the ladder of being the uno super power. See we are finally opening our eyes, but it's going to take some time to bite this addiction to oil, only then will we be the true super power, self dependent for the most part

I don't see Russia overtaking the US, their economic drive has never seemed to have enough momentum. China will, I can see them taking the lead as the most dominant global power. The US will remain big, Russia will grow, Europe will stay much the same. Asia will be where the big shifts are seen.CameronPoe wrote:
Won't be ONE power. Russia have the capacity to become one again and are looking ominous, exerting their influence throughout Europe and central Asia. China will be one. USA will play second fiddle to China and China and Russia will be in close enough cahoots. I don't think it'll be Cold War stuff. Sadly Brazil and India just don't have the capability.
There probably won't be though. Maybe a few nuclear strikes in the middle east at some point, but I doubt even that would happen - even if Iran developed nukes and tensions between them and Israel grew.Major.League.Infidel wrote:

Exactly. The EU is already the biggest and most powerful trading block in existence, but they will never be a superpower. Mostly because they don't want to be. The divisions make it very easy for them to not have to do things because they are individual nations. Being a dominant superpower is a burden I'm sure the EU wants desperately to avoid.Longbow wrote:
EU never will be one nation ( I guess there is no reason to discuss it - different languages , culture , customs & so on ) and I dont think that EU wants to dominate like US now .

I think the Russian Federation of States will emerge in the not so distant future as a super power again. She has masses of gas in her federation if she can hold it together. She also has lots of cheep labor. Recently Russia has shown she is well capable of switching off the gas when countries don't toe their particular line -20 outside or not. Britain and most of Europe within the next 20 years will be relying on Russia for 95% of their gas supply. Britain probably will loose some of their close economic and military ties with the USA to keep the Russians happy and I can imagine a much more pro Eastern, Europe emerging as a result. With this foothold lost in Europe the USA will loose much of its influence across the pond again strengthening Russia's. At this point we will see Russia over take America as the world No1 super power IMO. I think America will still remain a supper power, but its sphere of influence will dramatically decrease.
EU for the win ^^
China already possess 3 000 000 000 000 $ in US Treasure bonds and US dollars...and they intend, in the next 10 years, to buy 50 multinationals from the top 500.... So guess my answer.......
In 50 years time the wars with the mutants will have started
In 50 years time I will be the worlds leading superpower with my army of genetically enhanced donkeys
