I live in St.Louis and can see why it is #1. However one cannot assume that it is all of St.Louis that is dangerous, it is mostly the urban areas of North and East St.Louis that cause much of the violence and crime for those ratings. East St.Louis is the home of dozens of gangs and drug rings.

The suburban counties in St.Louis are pretty safe though, anything on the outskirts or where I live.

come to Melbourne. Its safe. City of 4 million, and its nice still.
I'm not saying there's a direct correlation between gun laws and crime (i dont want to hijack), but gun laws are "tight like man's anus" [quote borat], and no one gets shot very often. Either that, or we're just nicer people.

Im pretty sure this list is based off of violent crimes.  Things like assault, murder, etc.  Things such as break-ins, car theft, vandalizing, etc arent considered on this list.  I believe it is violent crimes.

I would actually like to see where Indianapolis ranks at, even though it isnt in either top 25.

Is this a personal attack? It has had time to spread and nothing has happened so generally I won't be concerned. Operating a gun is far from hard, a guy has an AK47(temporarily modified for automatic) at my work and has showed me how to use it.

But I'm still trying to figure out if you are attacking me in that post? If so, why?

I was curious about Indy too.  The bad thing about Gary, In is that it is just a very poverty ridden suburb of Chicago.  The two might as well be the same City, you wouldn't even know that you were going from one to the other if you didn't see the state line sign.

Yeah JG, Gary is just a shit hole.  Your right, you wouldnt notice the difference had you not passed a sign that points out your crossing the state line.  Same goes with Michigan City, Crown Point, and all those other cities up along the lake area.  Crown point is the nice suburb of Gary, and its only 30 minutes from Chicago.  It would be interesting to see where Indy ranks at.  It not the worst city obviously, but I know its definitely alot more dangerous than some people would think.

Locate Washington D.C. on that list. lol
I would agree lol.  The parts of D.C. I have been too didnt seem too bad...but the surrounding metro areas are a different story.  I stayed at a hotel in Maryland, a couple blocks down the street from the University of Maryland.  A couple blocks in the opposite direction became a change of scenery.  It went from a nice, decent college neighborhood, to bar covered windows, police having people at gun point at 2 separate locations within a block of each other.  That area was pretty run down, which doesnt necessarily mean that its bad, but from what I gathered, the area we drove through was pretty bad.....or so it seemed.

If you notice though, on that list, for the Metro areas, M.D. ranks number 1 lol, no town, no city, just Maryland.

if i was trying to attack you i wouldnt offer to teach you how to defend yourself. and as for shooting a kalishnikov, well my friend that is about the least difficult thing you could do with a firearm. no no im talking about real skill with a pistol. after all when the shit hits the fan you cant very well pull out an ak that has a nifty trigger sear to blow everyone away BF2 style. and as for operating a gun is not hard well i guess if the only thing you know how to use is that ak then i guess it isnt hard, though impractical.
......in fact if your game since operating a firearm is not hard i will give you $20 to shoot a HANDGUN accuratly @ SEVEN yards. thats a 4 inch group @ 7 yards........7 yards is nothing. sounds like a quick $20 for you. but if you dont its twenty for me.......well call it 8 out of 10 shots....i got the place and i can even get it so were the only ones there, so your concentration wont get messed up. any gun except .22s. they rent pistols and you can use whichever one you would like........if your game......and i dont know why you wouldnt be, its free money for you. since its all so simple.

that's right, macon, georgia in there twice. usually we're top ten in the overall list when adjusted for population. Seriously though, I literally live right on the edge of the "hood" (weird distribution of demographics here, roman revival house 3 doors down from me just went for 1.1 mil, yet the entire street of houses behind us isn't worth 50,000) but i feel perfectly fine walking anywhere. if this is considered dangerous people have nothing to worry about

I think Richmond is much worse than Oakland, per capita.  What baffles me is San Jose is safest in its size category.  Obviously, the people doing the survey have never driven in San Jose (has highest vietnamese population outside of vietnam in the world and is host to many other foreign countries (afghanistan, pakistan, and other asian countries) who do not produce the best quality drivers.  Commuting through San Jose is a death wish..no matter what lane you choose.
I think the report is for violent crime per capita....

And I'm from St. Louis - trust me, no sane white people live in the city.  But  what  you folks don't know is it has a lot to do with East St. Louis, Illlinois.  It only has a population of about 30,000 so its half the size needed to be on the list.  But I promise you, East STL is 3X as dangerous as St. Louis.  Walking down the street is a death wish.  I was in college taking photos for a black and white photography class.  I found myself across the river near the train yard (I like trains) and I was straight up followed for about two miles by this hoopty jalopy.  I ran red light, got on the highway and I was gone.

They probably got an exemption with the large flux in population, they couldn't tell which category to put it in.
