Hey all,

I was playing just now and noticed that the tank is able to blow up the AT mines with its main gun. Is this new? I could have sworn I tried that before and it didnt work.. Perhaps it was added in the recent patch.

Anyway it seems to me that AT mines are totally useless for the majority of defense now if this is the case that someone within the M1A1 can take them out and roll along happily. They really should require another engineer to have to crawl out there and wrench em to get rid of them. Not realistic, no, but if it was realistic you would be able to bury the damn things so there would be no clue they were even there in the first place!

Kind of pisses me off because Engineer is my fav class but for the most part the special abilities are fairly minimized. For the most part commanders just drop health crates to fix exploded UAVs/scan/artillery, and ditto with damaged tanks (if they survive that long against the SpecOps, that is).

I much preferred the BF1942 Engineers, seemed to be a more well-rounded class with the dynamite and mines.. At least we could defend ourselves against tanks if they showed up other than flinging AT mines and hoping for the best..

Perhaps the AT stands for "Anti Transport" since they are about all they are good for now, if the tank can just blow them away.. dammit!

I'm frigging annoyed!

Yeah they've been able to do that for a while.  APCs can do this also.

I more dislike mines because my teammates just love them.  I laid a couple down on Mashtuur today at the Hotel because a humvee was coming up.  They saw me and all jumped out and nailed me.  However, about 5 guys from my team cleaned up.  Then these geniouses decided to take the hummer and must not have seen the mine because as soon as I respawned, boom I get 4 teamkills.

At least only 2 punished...

Use AT mines on enemy runways. That is a lot of fun, and the pilots can't see a thing and usually, (when a bomber is involved,) you get two kills.

Never use a line of mines to block off a point. Firstly it will make all friendly veichles unable to move, and secondly, a single mine is a lot harder to see than a line of mines. A line will be blown away, a single mine will get you a kill.

Ya I throw down single mines at the entrance to karkand and that usually will help keep the tanks at bay for a bit, but this game the tank and APC just cruised on thru..

Can they blow up C4 lying on the ground too?

Engineer totally needs some better gear.. If you're not in a vehicle you better find a vehicle, for the most part.. Bleh!

You know I don't really think it's the AT mines that are useless, rather, it's the shoddy map design that has gone into a lot of maps.

Like for example, karkand. There's very few places you can put an AT mine where it doesn't stick out like a sore thumb. But there are some EXTREMELY AWESOME places when the terrain supports it. For example, at train accident, have you ever put AT mines down right behind the tracks on that raised ridge? No tank rolling along that way can see them - then BOOM.

You know that hole in the road with the wooden planks over by square? You might be able to get away with a mine there too, at least if someone rolls into it.

Mines would also be great if there was a bit more flora. A mine placed in a plant is nicely camoflagued.

Unfortunately, almost everywhere vehicles go, they get these nice smooth roads with no irregularities, which sucks for mining.

I have had SOME GREAT LAUGHS by boobytrapping vehicules in the uncaps or flags far from the lines. Use a jeep to get around quickly, hop out and toss a mine on to the tanks, apc and aa. Then drive to the next flag and repeat. Usually you get great news as you travel from flag to flag!

If you drop a mine on top of a tank that works ok? Does it slide off or anything? I'll have to try that Still need my explosives badge, might be a good way (if annoying as hell to the other side )

I think you should be able to stick mines underground... I mean thats where they are supposed to go, correct?

I was thinking it would be cool to be able to dig a pit for the mines, then in the vehicles there could be some kind of audible warning that would get higher pitch the nearer you get to the mines etc.. like one of those metal detector things ..

You do know grenade launchers and grenades will also blow up land mines?

Highly useful at times.

Yep thats why I think assault is great for clearing mines.

Occasionally I'll find enemies that use AT's well, and I use the distance shots on the 203/GP to remove the mines I spot/suspect are in cover.

Bah, I wanted to make an avatar for this shit, and I kinda gave up halfway through (Time spent on project was about 30 seconds) so here's the finished copy for all you NEWBS who run over mines.

mines go off very easily. about any explosive should do the job. Moreover, they have a lifespan that is so short, it acts more than a long fuse grenade..with a relatively long arming time.

C4 on the other, can only be destroyed by C4s or remote. Even Arty does not remove them.

I'd be interested in anti-personnel mines (like the kind you step on).

Also, I kinda have an issue with claymore mines.  Aren't they detonated by clacker just like C4?  I've read real stories from guys in Vietnam who describe claymores and they are either tripped by a wire or detonated manually...

The M18 Claymore is a mechanical type of mine.
Yes...A spring drives a striker against a percussion cap which fires the detonator...the whole process is activated by pulling the tripwire.

But here's a newer method to blow Claymores remotely...not in use yet:

AT mines are very useful on the rugged terrain in Gulf of Oman. the trick is to only place them when you know an enemy will drive down a certain path. my favorite use for the AT mine is on enemy armor that is capping a flag. i get real sneaky and place a mine in the front and in the back, right by the tread/tire. then i back up about 20 feet and empty a few shots at the armor. most of the time the guy will slightly move to see where the shots are coming from and blow himself up.

Use the mines like C4...  Just throw them on a tank or whatever and once they move it blows up.  Great for booby-trapping unoccupied enemy vehicles too.

Claymores are anti personel mines btw but if u could only set them off by a detonator, u d have to watch your claymores all the time to avoid an enemy walking over them and nothing happening. If u have to watch your claymores all the time, you ve got no time to shoot that m24. Thats probably the reason why they put in the wired ones so u ll have your hands free for taking those long distance shots.

I know this is a bit off topic but you also use clamores to kill ATV drivers this works because you cant see them due the high speed your traveling at.

i use claymores to booby trap vehicles. like the transports, u just plop the claymore in the back facing where the driver is sitting, like in the bigger transports (vods, hummers, NJ 2046) u they have an open back just toss the claymore in there and when a driver goes in *BOOM*

True words there first.

I use AT mines like C4... Toss one, toss a grenade.

That's the only way not to get TKs. Even then I don't use them too much.

You get to avoid tks like that? Lucky........

Seriously, on karkand, I type in: Beware of mines and claymore at sheet metal walls.

And them I see 2 guys charging for the gate, I stand near the gate to stop then, they shoot the crap outta me and I repeatedly said "Negative" but... Boom! Boom! , 1 punishs, 1 doesn't.
And then some idiot mines OUR team's spawn pionts, he gets kicked, the enemy gets a good luagh and I get so pissed that I left the game in search of better servers...

Anyway, I tried "booby-mining" a enemy tank but he just reversed , the mine dropped and nothing happened..
