Ok, when I say this I'm being totally serious. This really did just happen and it's kinda freaked me out.

One of my girlfriend's best friends from high school, a girl that just turned 19, hung herself from a ceiling fan with shoestrings. From what I've gathered her boyfriend who she was obsessed with finally broke it off for good and she just couldn't take it.

What possesses people to kill themselves? I've seriously never understood it. . .and I certainly can't in this case. I knew this girl. She was beautiful, funny, was attending college, and she had a lot going for her. So some asshole breaks up with her and she decides to hang herself from the fan? I mean, what the fuck?! I hung out with this girl. . .went to parties with her. . .and she goes and kills herself at 19. A whole life over before it even got up and running.

Depression is a question for the ever-developing field of psychology. Was she on any medication? That can sometimes have adverse effects.

alot of times its probably just a severe imbalance of chemicals in the brain... it just doesnt make sense that someone make a conscious decision like that at that point of their life.

No I do not. It's a matter of being 1337. The more 1337 you are, the less Emo you will become.

And what if it was your sister, daughter or friend? What if you were the bloke who screwed her up and dumped her? They'll never know if something they'd done caused it or could have stopped it. That's hard to live with. She thought that life was that bad, and probably didn't understand that her grief was a normal part of growing up, and maybe she had no-one to talk to these things about. If you don't feel sorry for her and her family/friends then you lack one of the more important defining human characteristics, empathy.

One of my uncles killed himself. They put him on all sorts of strange medication after Vietnam, which may have been a contributing factor. I feel sorry for him in regards to the circumstances that made him feel like he had to do it, but I don't feel sorry for whatever restraint he had left. He was said to have been a cool guy, and I feel cheated to not have met him.

I suffer from clinical depression and take medication for same and I can tell you that it is completely impossible for someone who does not suffer from depression to empathise with the way in which a truly clinically depressed persons mind works. Being rejected by her boyfriend was likely only a trigger that prompted her to carry out the suicide, the underlying depression that led to her suicide probably being far far more complicated than you could possibly imagine.

I can see from a lot of the childish remarks on this thread that some people are very poorly educated about matters of the health of the human mind. You should all shut the fuck up, you really have no idea. Read some psychology books maybe.

My depression is a hereditarily received chemical imbalance that I have had since I can remember, the only solution being medication. No amount of counselling would affect it. Thanks to modern science I can live a full and normal life. If people were better educated about matters of the mind and could spot the tell-tale signs in those that suffer, many needless suicides could be avoided.

That's pretty sick, man, sorry, I'm pretty tolerant of other people and their ideas, but that's twisted. She killed herself due to not feeling like lief was worth living. Most likely she lived her life through her boyfriend, and ddin't feel like she had any worth herself. She probably pushed her boyfriend away, while at the same time clinging to what she had with him, and probably tried to get him to prove his love for her constantly. She was probably very emotinonally immature and unstable. You can't sit tehre and feel nothing for someone who had serious emotional issues and no where to turn for help. This was a choice she made because no one thought to see how she was doing. No one batted an eyelash for her, no one thought to be her friend when it mattered, they just stuck their head in the sand and ignored it, almost identical to the atitude you just displayed. It's attitudes like yours that prevent many from helping others, and from seeing that people need help. Your head needs more examining than the poor girl that just took her life. God bless her.

if you think some girl isn't going to break up with you, think again. the reverse is also true.

suicide happens more in the under 25 set.
