@ Marlboroman82

Could you benchmark it with HDTach and post the results here?

TIA

OK, but, I wonder if the bigger cache would even be noticeable?

Yes, you'll notice a difference. In the price tag of the 16 MB cache drive and the 8 MB one of equal volumes.

K, I've got 3 drives in my system, all SATA, and here are the stats for the three drives, with the closest comparison drives HDTach had in the program.

holy f***, in the meantime I got the older 8Mb version (WD360GD) but I just discovered these dudes must have had it around for ages, cause it's not even a RECERTIFIED (with the gel around the bearings and stuff).

OK, means I will go for the 16Mb cache after all. Im sure I wont see the difference, but I guess newer is better, so thanks to you all anyway for posting some valuable reference.

Thanks for the benchmarks of the WD Raptor drives. I previously wanted to buy a Raptor drive but i always wondered if they're really worth the money. I came to the conclusion that the difference between performance and money can't be that great.

Therefore i bought a Seagate Barracuda 7200.10 250GB, it was broken since the beginning and Seagate changed it to a 400GB drive without a extra charge.

Now take a look at the benchmarks.

Judge yourself if a WD Raptor's really worth the money. Especially if you only judge the 74 and 150 GB area the Raptor doesn't have a chance except in Random Access times.

I dont know, dude, but one thing I see in all the charts above is Raptor's have extremely flat lines while all others look kinda "bumpy"?
Maybe they are not all that better (or necessary, I agree about that) for our specific case (loading karkand in XX seconds so we can spawn first, LOL) but all the reviews say theyre absolutely great, so I guess they have an edge somewhere
