com on cyborg_ninja-117, there was no need for all that. i just love the sas, don't know why. As for using L85A1, i don't think so considering that's what the army uses, so iam sure the SF must use somthing else.

This is what i prefer:

A sas soldier who gets a free ride from the RAF. Gets the infantry to carry his shit. Walks up to the nearest U.S. Military personal and says:

"was up dude, how was the march?"

It's the same thing Mafia. We should never have changed from the FN-Fal, the Falkands would be called the Malvinas today (officialy) were it not for that gun. It's amazing the difference small-arms can make.

My serious vote on this would have to go to the USMC, i have to give credit to the USA for taking Marines and then giving them tanks and an air-arm. Crazy bastards.

I think this is too broad, myself.  So, I'll split this up.

Ground pounding - Marine all the way.
Air Power - I'll take the Navy pilots.  Which may sound odd, but look at the comparative skill required to land an aircraft on a nicely static airfield compared to an aircraft carrier ... (Incidently, this is also why the Blue Angels own the Thunderbirds)

I think the training for the marines is how you create a nut job/phycho/killer.  And that's fine, when you're being fired on.  But eventually you DO have to grow up, be compatible with fellow humans, maybe even have a family. 

Army Ranger friends I have are just as lethal and well trained, but they lack the over-training the marines get and are therefore more compatible with normal humans.

I enlisted in the Marines in jan 91 (gulf war era) and was discharged after 3 weeks of basic because I didn't disclose i had psoriasis.  Hehe, yep, a small 1" patch of dry skin kept me from going to Riyadh to play volleyball with my buddy who was deployed.  Of course now, I'm sure they'd overlook that small patch of dry skin.  Stupid, stupid rules...probably made by ignorant military surgeons.

Coast Guard isn't a branch of the armed forces, it falls under the jurisdiction of Homeland Security.

I've got more respect for marine pilots than I do navy.  Don't forget, the marines fly the Harrier, which is one of the most difficult jets to fly.  Not to mention the marines are flying equipment that's older than any of the other branches.

Marines are always the frontline, so they get my vote... plus they've only lost one battle in the entire history of the marine corps, and it wasn't really a loss, they got surrounded and had to fight through the enemy to return to base.
Good point. That battle would be the one in the Korean War at the Chosin Resevour. Marines call it the "Frozen Cosin". The Marines were led by the famous officer "Chesty" Puller. A Marine said "Sir we are completely surrounded by 8 Chinese Divisions" and he replied "Excellent Marine! Any way we shoot we get get to kill someone!".

Air Force for airpower and a large contribution to the battlefield network
navy for the, well, navy
coast guard, so the boys overseas dont have to come back from what they are doing

I know the coast guard is part of Homeland Security because when Homeland Security took in the coast guard they needed armourers badly, they actually approached me to join up with the coast guard cause they needed em so bad.  (I'm a gunsmith by the way)
