bast way is to find a card thats within the price range you want to pay,then just google (for axample)
"bfg 7800gt review" & you'll find a fair few sites giving a detailed review on whatever card you choose.
usualy comprising of an indepth look at the cards clockspeeds/chip structure/bundled games,& also benchmarks of a few games & 3dmark scores tested on a couple of systems comparing it to other cards in the same series & its ati or nvidia rival at a similar price tag.

i'd sooner trust this methods to just asking other people to make you a big list up whcih would mainly comprise of guesswork or their preffered nvidia or ati as a lot of people tend to be biased towards one manufacturer of card,like myself i've always had nvidia so i'll always stick to what i know & trust.

i always use this method when unsure of what card to buy,& if you read a few different reviews on different benchmarking & tweaking sites & the bench results & coments are the same on each,then you'll  know it aint gonna be a shit card lol.
