You can't really tell if it will run on high unless you give us your desired resolution...

I mean, run it on high on 800x600 with a 6200 or something. Run it on high on 1280x1024 with a 6800GT. Or run it on high on 1690x1050 with a 7800GTX 512.

See?

I have a 21" widescreen TFT, and I'm going to get a 7800GTX fairly soon.

Only the 7600 and 7800 are AGP out of the 7 series.  I guess the 7600 would be able to run BF2 on high, I have a 6800 with 128 mb and I run on Mid/High.  FPS of 40-55.

wow thanks for a great response, looks like at was a question that was on many peoples mind.

Well I have mulled it over and I think I'm going to update my system:-

The new specs are as follows, feedback would be great!

Case:- Gigabyte GZ-3D-SIL - going to try gigabyte this time, I love there system boards. I have Lian-Li case  currently. £81

System Board:- Gigabyte GA-965P-DS4 this has a sata 2 raid controller so I can stripe 2 x 160GB sata Maxtor's and 2 normal PCI slots so I can keep my creative Audigy 2 ZS  £81

Processor:- Intel Pentium D 945 Socket 775 3.4GHz 2x2MB £125

HDD:- Maxtor SATA 2 160GB x2 for the raid array, these puppies come in at £40 each

Optical Drives:- NEC ND4571 16x+/-R 5x DVD-RAM LabelFlash DVD Writer -Silver x2 £25 Each

PSU:- Thermaltake W0093R 500W TR2 ATX 2.0 PSU £38

RAM:- Kingston ValueRAM 2048MB (2 x 1024MB) 667MHz DDR2 ECC CL5 DIMM £133 for the pair at www.exciteit.co.uk

and finally (drum roll) the whole reason for this post the graphics card that will run my BF2 on kick ass high res and detailed deaths is :-

Gigabyte 256Mb nVidia GeForce 7900GT PCI-Express VGA Card for £200

Most of these parts are sourced from www.eclipse-computers.com (there's your plug, now discount please?)

So there we go, that should do it. I just cannot spend £300+ on a graphics card thats too much. This system costs about £825 and don't forget I have a pretty good system to sell (anyone interested email me).

The specs of the system to sell is as follows:-

Lian-Li case
PSU is a dual fan 400W Thermal Take if I recall correctly (can be confirmed)
Gigabyte GA-8IPE1000
Gigabyte GV-N59X128D Which is the NVIDIA GeForce FX 5900XT
2 x 512MB DDR
P4 3.0 Ghz
2 x hdd 40GB Maxtor or Seagate?

Can be sold with or without a brand new boxed HP L1506 LCD Screen

Also have a PCI Raid Controller with 2 x Samsung Spinpoint 160GB for a fast stripe or safe mirror, I have run Chkdsk on them today and work fine (they have always worked fine)

Various HDD's 20gb's 40gb's Seagate and Maxtor

So once again thanks a lot and ebay here I come!!

Think of the future??

When DX10 comes out a 7900GTX won't be the future as no current GFX cards support it.

Get a cheap but decent card till DX10 .....then splash out on a Nvidia G80 or ATI R600 based card.

When I bought my PC from my mates company I paid £300 extra......the extra was for an upgrade to a dual R600 system when it comes out

Hello trigger happy players,

I am really enjoying my time playing bf2 and have a nice collection of awards so far, but I want to improve the game play.

My graphics have defaulted to low and the game runs fine, I manually upped it to medium and although the graphics looked a bit better successful game play wasn't possible.

So who can tell me which graphics card I need that will allow me to play BF2 on HIGH/BEST Graphics!

Quick Specs
Gigabyte GA-8IPE1000
Gigabyte GV-N59X128D Which is the NVIDIA GeForce FX 5900XT
2 x 512MB DDR
P4 3.0 Ghz
Creative Audigy 2 ZS

All Latest Service packs, Drivers, Direct X, Patches and shit.
I had almost exactly the same specs as you, only other mobo and an Nvideo 6200TC.....
I spend some money on my comp in the past few months, and now i got:

Intel Corporation D915GAV
4 x 512 mb ram
P4 3.0 GHZ HT
Asus Nvidea 7900GT TOP edition.
300 wat power.

AND i run all HIGH with 4 X AA

PS: about the power, it is really bullshit that everyone says: "you need at least 350 watt power".
I got 300watts, an 7900gt and an home made casemod ( see: http://forums.bf2s.com/viewtopic.php?pid=740928#p740928 )
and its fine

Very nice.

Dont 4get the 2nd video card and SLi them (otherwise the motherboard will be wasted).

The video cards MUST BE IDENTICAL IN ALL REGARDS
If the 1st video card is a Gigabyte 7900GT with 256MB RAM then the 2nd video card must also be a Gigabyte 7900GT with 256MB RAM

Bah future future future "dont 4get Vista this, bloody Vista that" blah blah blah DX10. If you ask me its all over-rated. My 2 7600GTs will run on Vista no problem (if and when I can be bothered enuff to use it), and my DX7/8? GF3 Ti200 ran DX9 games VERY well.

Hmm.... I'd really like to know how you guys are getting that many fps. When I only get about 40 when running around, and it drops to about 25 when a hole lot of stuff is happening. Specs are as follows,

AMD Athlon 64 FX-60 dual core @2.6 ghz cooled with Thermaltake Big typhoon (that thing is a monster)
DFI Lanparty nF4 SLI-DR
2 XFX 6800GS 256mb 485/1100 oc'ed at 500/1160 (in SLI)
2 WD RAPTORS 74 gig 10,000rpm (in Raid 0)
2 gigs OCZ Gold DDR 500 Dual channel Ram
Maxtor 300 gig 7200rpm
Hp L2335 23" widescreen
Enermax 600W Power supply
Thermaltake PurePower Power Express 250W Power Supply (for video cards only)

Run the game at 1600x1200
everything high
AA=off
AF=off
Tried running everything maxed i.e 1600x1200 everything high 8=AA 16=AF. Looked  awsome, but only got like 15fps the whole time.

Maybe a setting that I'm missing, I don't know. Because what I'm reading from you guys, I should have no problems running this game everything maxed!

3dmark06=5920 the free verson

P.S How are you guys getting a Res at like 2048x1536 or 1690x1050? I would love to be able to run this game at 1920x1200!

It sounds like your video cards arnt up to scratch. GS is inferior to GT.

I am running 2 GB RAM, 2x7600GT SLi res 1280x1024@75Hz with 50-70FPS

Scrap the 6800GS and go with 7600GT SLi (@ least - altho I would take 2x7900GT SLi)

I know, but being as I just got this CPU last friday! I know I need new video cards. But need to save some $$$$ for new ones. Wondering if I should go with 2 7950GX2's or wait for the new directX 10 and the new cards that support it. Anyone know how long till it comes out?

1st of all, it is useless to post you rig specs here!

The topicstarter asked a question how he´ll be able to run high settings! His mobo has an AGP8x interface, so it´s useless to write "go fo 7900GT or X1800XT!!!" if he wont upgrade to a PCI-E Mobo!

Here are his specs

As mentioned before, go for an Nvidia 7800GS 256MB for best AGP performance atm. The ATI X8** series, isnt bad, but those cards dont support Shader 3.0! The Nvidia 6800GT and 6800Ultra AGP are outdated, they have a good performance, but compared to the 7series, too expensive and not a par.

For a average setting a 7600GT AGP 256MB will be the most bang for the buck! But keep in mind, this card wont be able to run 1900x1600 AA-full, AF-full. Also remember upcoming games like Crysis, Gothic3, UT2007 etc will have higher requirements on the GPU than the BF2-Engine.

Well, tbh, just go with one single 7900GTX 512MB (around 450-500€) if you like Nvidia´s, or a X1900XT(X) if you prefer ATI. A single 7950GX2 isnt much faster than the 7900GTX, and remember, its not a dual GTX-chip, its two pimped GT-chips.

Go for a 7900GTX, and if you have too much money in spare, well, just buy another one.

DX10 cards arent aviable yet, and if those are released the prices will be way to high. A good 7900GTX or X1900XT(X) has enough power for upcoming games.

and please fellow techies, dont come along with DX10-cards all the way, those arent even released, so wtf?!

Maj.Do wrote:

None of the aviable cards run DX10 atm! NONE!!!

So I should get two 7900GTX's vs two 7950GX2's? Wouldn't running Quad SLI (when they get the drivers sorted out of corse) own the 2 7900GTX's in SLI?

Thing is, in the next month or so, I'll have about a G to spend on two new cards. Just don't want to spned that much, and not be happy with them. What would be your pick? Two 7900GTX's or two 7950GX2's?

Thank you for your help.

first of all, I have a SLI 7900GTX system! But to safe some money, just go for a single 7900GTX first, if you dont feel comfortable with it, just buy one more

I´m not to familiar with the GX7950X2, but atm Quadsli is a joke and those cards are overpriced.

I would say, 7900GTX ftw!
