---UPDATED---- (i've made some updates under Medals/Ribbons)

I know there are other posts regarding this but i wanted to put them all under one topic. I apologize in advance for this. Someone mentioned that they're all in medal_data.py in your bf2/xpack folders (thanks to you, don't recall your nick so feel free to take the credit for that). So i took a look and here's what i've been able to find. There may be further requirements as evident by the (global_stat) variable (certain number of hours played as etc.) but this is what i can pick out of the data as being the IAR requirements:

Medals --UPDATED-- (these medals are commented out, you cannot receive! no more shinys)
--------

https://i24.photobucket.com/albums/c32/Jester3/th_medal_serv_seal.jpg
Navy Seal Special Service Medal - 250 hrs as (not obtainable)

https://i24.photobucket.com/albums/c32/Jester3/th_medal_serv_sas.jpg
Sas Special Service Medal - 250 hrs as (not obtainable)

https://i24.photobucket.com/albums/c32/Jester3/th_medal_serv_spetz.jpg
Spetz Special Service Medal - 250 hrs as (not obtainable)

https://i24.photobucket.com/albums/c32/Jester3/th_medal_serv_mec.jpg
Mec SF Service Medal - 250 hrs as (not obtainable)

https://i24.photobucket.com/albums/c32/Jester3/th_medal_serv_reb.jpg
Rebel Special Service Medal - 250 hrs as (not obtainable)

https://i24.photobucket.com/albums/c32/Jester3/th_medal_serv_ins.jpg
Insurgent Special Service Medal - 250 hrs as (not obtainable)

These ones are tricky but they all have one variable in common (16200000). If you search you will notice that there are other medals with the same variable. Navy Cross, People's Medallion, and the Golden Scimitar. However, the above 3 medals specify the 100 best round score and the 500 wins where these new medals do not. They only share the one variable for the time played as, which is 250 hrs as each force. The service medals are commented out and so you cannot receive them.

Ribbons --UPDATED--
---------

https://i24.photobucket.com/albums/c32/Jester3/th_ribbon_serv_seal.jpg
Navy Seal Service Ribbon - 5 hrs played as (commented out, not obtainable)

https://i24.photobucket.com/albums/c32/Jester3/th_ribbon_serv_sas.jpg
SAS Service Ribbon - 5 hrs played as (commented out, not obtainable)

https://i24.photobucket.com/albums/c32/Jester3/th_ribbon_serv_spetz.jpg
Spetznas Service Ribbon - 5 hrs played as (commented out, not obtainable)

https://i24.photobucket.com/albums/c32/Jester3/th_ribbon_serv_mec.jpg
MEC SF Service Ribbon - 5 hrs played as (commented out, not obtainable)

https://i24.photobucket.com/albums/c32/Jester3/th_ribbon_serv_reb.jpg
Rebel Service Ribbon - 5 hrs played as (commented out, not obtainable)

https://i24.photobucket.com/albums/c32/Jester3/th_ribbon_serv_ins.jpg
Insurgent Service Ribbon - 5 hrs played as (commented out, not obtainable)

https://i24.photobucket.com/albums/c32/Jester3/th_ribbon_serv_crew.jpg
Crew Specialist Service Ribbon - IAR: 1 driver special ability, 20 driver assists, 10 kills

https://i24.photobucket.com/albums/c32/Jester3/th_ribbon_serv_armor.jpg
Armoured Specialist Service Ribbon - IAR: 20 mins in armor, 22 kills in armor

https://i24.photobucket.com/albums/c32/Jester3/th_ribbon_serv_heli.jpg
Helicopter Specialist Service Ribbon - IAR: 15 mins in a heli, 22 kills in heli

https://i24.photobucket.com/albums/c32/Jester3/th_ribbon_serv_air.jpg
Aerial Specialist Service Ribbon - IAR: 15 mins in jet, 22 kills in jet (dunno why it's here, there's no jets in SF)

The faction service ribbons all have one variable in common (18000) which looks like a time variable.  So this gives us 18000 divided by 60 secs is 300 mins or 5 hrs. The service ribbons are commented out and so you cannot receive them, only crew/heli/armor/air are available.

Ranks
-------

Level 1 - 150 pts
Level 2 - 500 pts
Level 3 - 800 pts
Level 4 - 2,500 pts
Level 5 - 5,000 pts
Level 6 - 8,000 pts
Level 7 (these are the split ranks)
  7 - 20,000 pts
8 - 20,000 pts (knife, pistol, assault, AT, sniper, spec op, support, eng, medic)
Level 8 (these are the split ranks)
  9 - 50,000 pts
10 - 50,000 pts (armour, transport, helicopter, aviator, air defense, ground defense)
Level 10 (these are the split ranks)
  11 - 250,000 pts (awarded to 1 person monthly)
  12 - 200,000 pts

So it looks like the ranks are staying the same. And from what i've gathered from other posts on these forums it seems like you get an unlock for every rank above Sergeant. One requirement though i think is that you must unlock the BF2 weapon first before you can unlock the tier 2 upgrade in BF2:SF.

For instance: --UPDATED--

Sergeant - 1 SF unlock
Staff Sergeant - 2 SF unlocks
Gunnery Sergeant - 3 SF unlocks
Master/1st Sergeant - 4 SF unlocks
Master Gunnery/Sergeant Major - 5 SF unlocks
etc.

Misc --UPDATED--

Service Medal

https://i24.photobucket.com/albums/c32/Jester3/th_medal_valor.jpg
Medal Of Valor

https://i24.photobucket.com/albums/c32/Jester3/th_medal_courage.jpg
Medal Of Courage

These are just medals that aren't even coded in. Only image files and name tags are present, maybe for future use, i dunno. You can't obtain them right now.

Sorry for the long post. Feel free to add corrections, i may have erred somewhere.

yeah, I definitely had my night vision on for longer than 15 minutes with no badge... and its a good thing to because that would be a ridiculously easy badge to get, the grappling hooks and zip lines are silly enough. plus, I got my zip line badge after only 5 uses. I counted.

Check x:\Program Files\EA Games\Battlefield 2\Python_Xpack\bf2\stats\medal_data.py using notepad or some other text editor.

Scroll down to:

//---code
#Night Vision Usage Badge

            #('1261422_1', 'X1nvb',    1, object_stat ('vehicles', 'rtime', VEHICLE_TYPE_NIGHTVISION, 900)),

            #('1261422_2', 'X1nvb',    1, f_and(     has_medal ('1261422_1'),
            #                    global_stat ('tvn', 57600))),

well, I played for 30 minutes in a server with the thing engaged the whole time, and I didn't get any badge for it, and the server wasn't having any problems reporting either because I earned the stupid zip line badge and the medic specialist combat badge in the same game

I'm not discounting what you're saying at all. If you counted the zip line use then you're probably right. It may give you 1 use for shooting it and 1 use for using it. 2 pts each time... i dunno.

I'm just relating what the actual code in medal_data.py is checking for when it awards you the badges. Anyone can check this with their own file.

jnick,  please give it a rest.  Unless you are one of EA Games designers, then you really have no idea if there is or isn't a Night Vision Badge.

Secondly, The picture shown of this "non-existent" badge in the other post where you made this same uneducated reponse, does fit one of the shaded areas for a badge in the game.     Hence, you may be wrong my freind...

GEEZ what the hell is everyones problem? The guy took his time to figure some things out for us and you do nothing but flame him. Everyone is interested in whether or not there are badges, and he did this on his own to give us some kind of example. CONGRATS to you JESTER and thank you for trying to help!! To all the flamers, if You don't believe he is right then just wait and find out from chuy QUIT FLAMIN!!

Well, the code for the Night Vision Usage Badge is commented out. There is an image for it though... just have to wait and see if someone gets it. If there is one, then the requirements are hard coded.

There is a badge but you won't be able to earn it due to the code being commented out. Now if a server wanted too - they could uncomment it and you would recieve it.

In reply to stats: I believe your stats continue to add up normally. For instance kills, deaths, transport time, heli time etc. are just added to your current stats that you already have for these. However i'm sure there will be some new stat tracking needed for instance zip-line/grappling hook uses... these are a completely new category.

In reply to unlocks: From what i can tell from the unlocks.py file is that it shows a total of 12 unlocks available where the original BF2 had slots for only 7.

//---code
unlockItemMap = {
            11 : 0,
            22 : 1,
            33 : 2,
            44 : 3,
            55 : 4,
            66 : 5,
            77 : 6,
            88 : 1,
            99 : 2,
               111 : 3,
               222 : 4,
               333 : 5,
        }
//---code

I'm only guessing that you would get 2 unlocks instead of 1 for each new rank, i don't know for sure. What i do know is after playing my first round of SF, i received 4-5 new unlocks. I think the trigger for this is that you actually just finished a round of SF, you don't actually have to accomplish anything, just that you spent some initial time playing the new expansion for it to reward you with them.

One of the options was a flashbang which means that you not only have to unlock kit weapons now but also the new items for them. This makes sense because i believe the new weapons, flashbang, tear gas, zip-line, grappling hook add up to 12 new items. Someone that unlocked one of these items will have to confirm this.

In reply to the night vision badge: The coding is there, the images are there but as NM156 pointed out it's coded out which means you cannot obtain it at this time. My guess is that when they rushed SF out sooner rather than later, they had yet to perfect the coding for the night vision. So instead of leaving it in and causing trouble, they may have opted to leave it out for a future patch.

From what the manual says the night vision isn't supposed to stay on forever. It's supposed to drain and recharge when you have it turned off. I'm sure you've all noticed that the night vision doesn't drain now... you can leave it on indefinitely which according to the manual, you're not supposed to be able to do. This is why i point out that it may not be working properly at this time.

yeah,

if you look at dizzes screen cap there you see not only does he not have a night vision badge, but there is no place for one either. its becoming kind of like nessy, or bigfoot at this point

with regards to the Night Vision hoopla...MY screen showed my night vision battery meter above my health meter and it gradually depleted as I used the goggles.  Maybe b/c I patched up to 1.12 AFTER I installed SF, like EA explicitly said to.  Not sure, but the battery life meter was definitely there and going down as I wore them.

bat I never noticed that... I had my googles on the whole time (I also patched after installation)... maybe I just died often enough that they never ran out.
