Mashtuur:
Hills behind the hotel, the water tower, the tall building, the tall bridge, blah blah. Again, better off with street corners in this map and keep moving. Theres a particular corner between Hotel and Mosque that looks straight down the flag, from a fair distance. That's useful. Again its a fluid map.
haha nope...my spot definetly rocks all of them ..on mashtuur that is
Remember that most of my comment was from the position of a counter-sniper

But it's fair enough! I find on Mashtuur that the lack of Uncaps makes the battle far more mobile and fluid than most other maps. Thus I find most overwatch positions on that map will at some point get too far from the battlelines to remain useful - and I don't simply mean in terms of killing enemy soldiers. As a sniper, with the most powerful optical device in the game, I see my role for the team as recon and strategic targetting - I'll spot enemy movements to the minimap for my teammates and use command functions to call for arty, UAV or supplies to points where I can see need it. With the sniper scope anyone can make these placements very accurately.

A position high in the centre of the map would be useful to a sniper, but once discovered could be a trap. Spots only accessible via helo or parachute are difficult to get into stealthily, and often give you away to the countersniper (or the guy with the grenade launcher).

Based on your comment I'll definitely be taking another look at Mashtuur... maybe I'll see you around
counter sniper in the most obvious positions on the map?? lol...over watch positions...i love taking guys out of them...its so easy...and my spot is we as centered as they get for mashtuur.. plenty of action...can run between 4 flags pretty easily the only long hikes are to the hill...and each gas station...and arty haha...not a chance at hitting me...and cartillery...i love when that lands next to me lol..still not a chance at ever hitting me with it though lol....have fun figuring this spot out

Sounds like you're doing exactly what I thought to be the right tactics for fluid maps; staying mobile. *shrugs*

So it has overhead cover. Narrows it down a bit. Can run between four flags easily. Narrows it even further. Like I said, I'll have another look when I'm next on the map. And yeah, either I will figure it out or I'll stumble across it randomly while exploring. Unless it's a glitch or hack. You found it, so can anyone else.

There is no one good spot unless your camping or somthing of that sort, the best spots for an actual sniper that hunts people or just targets people not camping you need to move from spot to spot because most players that get sniped dont enjoy it so would return to kill you so you need more than 1 spot to snipe so when you kill him youve got 15 seconds to move out of that area and go to your next spot going in circles from spot to spot is good because they soon give up but staying in the one spot your going to end up getting killed sooner or later and have to climb the ladder and hit your own claymores which sucks because you lose points so yeah unless for example you can spawn at arty island and hide behind arty you need multiple areas to snipe from to be most effective and remember you dont have 2 shots to kill youve got over 35 shots to use up better dieing without ammo then with it correct?

I am uploading a movie now. REAL bad quality. with shitty music.   Please don't judge it is a movie. It is made to tell you a few paces I snipe. Not a masterpeice......Will edit with completion.

Actually that was kind cool. I learned a bit from that. The posi on the rock was stunning; but I'm curious what it looks like from the roof of the buildings near the Hotel. The place in construction site is cool - I'll keep my eye out for people there. The last place is somewhere I commonly counter-snipe from TV Station... but wasn't sure if it was the row of buildings on the clubhouse side of the penninsula or the hotel side...

i don't think there is a "best" sniping place, only some very good spots ... remember the old sniper saying: location, location, location ? if you're lying at such a good spot and you snipe maybe 10 people they will start to play sniper and search for you, and finally they will kill you until you leave this place and change your location periodically...

Some nice spots in there.

The 'hidden' floor in Construction Site that nobody seems to realise is reachable can be a real sweet spot if you're careful and a bit lucky. I was once the last player in a game in there, and nobody could find me. I then ran out, crossed to the south building and killed three or four guys in the flag building from the stairs before they finally realised where I was. I might have been able to cap the flag back too if I weren't out of claymores.

FYI though, the way you showed is not the only way in, unfortunately. You can drop down from the floor above onto the projecting lips of the doorways. It's not a simple drop, a lot of people will miss if they go for you and it's the first time they've tried it, but it's simple once you know how.

That last spot, for hitting the TV Station, is actually well known.  The shadows of the Construction site are "safer".  But I find that the roof of the building with the ramp (center flag of the 16-map) to the left of your last spot, is very good for taking out TV Station and those advancing to the TV Station.

I tried that once after reading about it here. I couldn't believe you're not seen immediately! But if you are spotted you're toast of course.

Not arguing the position but there are no shadows for many people remember.

Left? From which direction? ENE! That's an okay spot as it's not commonly manned, but rooftops can be a bit risky; sometimes too easy to get raked by a decent chopper team or stomped by artillery (although it is unlikely on that building).

I think if the enemy is down to just TV Station it's better within Construction Site, sticking to one of the second floors; you're almost completely safe from artie and there's a selection of cover to choose from, depending on which building you prefer. Plus you can move back far enough that you're at the absolute limit of visibility for most people's machines even though they'll be clearly silhouetted against the sky for you.

Exactly.  Not well known.  That is, until now.

Yup.

I'm tempted to play without shadows, but seeing enemy shadows have saved me quite a few times.  When tanking, it's useful to see the shadow of an overhead AT.

I've got everything on High settings.  What settings are required for "no shadows"?

Because I'm new to a lot of this, these videos haven't become quite so passe for me as they have to others. I thought this was fuc&ing brilliant. I laughed so hard. As a video its cool, but for hard to reach spots, its amazing!

In those movies with teh Karkand Hopper, do you have to...ok this is going to be hard to explain:

Now the ---------- is the fence right? and the | are the things you stand on. He always jumped to the next one, so is it imposiible to stand or run on the ------------------.

This spot's not bad. No-one expects to get Sniped from the sea, (and FYI, the guy I sniped was a sitting duck on the AA.)

Yeah you can. I parachuted from the crane in Sharqi once and found myself running along the top of a barbed wire fence.

I'm surprised there aren're more attempts in this thread to derail would-be snipers like;

"top of the hill buildingh on mashtuur, no-one ever looks there".

Anyway, when I'm not vehicle whoring I like to snipe on 24/7 mash servers. Pretty much anywhere on there is good for it, you just need to check your six constantly if you're over near the north south-east tank spawn. I've seen some guys go up in the bridge near the power plant and snipe from there which looks good but is very ineffective. As other people have said, the best sniping place is where no-one looks. And to take that further, the best sniping place is off usual troop movement paths. Also, find a dark piece of terrain and try position your body with it. On a good graphics card (like mine) people will usually spot you no matter where you are but for those still running 5000 series nvidia, you'll be damned near invisible.

There is a spot on Mastuur, it's a medium sized bush on the hillside overlooking where the tank spawns(I can't remember the name of the Cp where the tank spawns) but anyway both sides are always fighting for this CP to control the tank. I lay right in front of that bush with my feet up agaisnt it and have gotten a lot of kills there the few times I've used it. Also I put a claymore inside the bush and have killed a few guys with it...but when it goes off it's time to get out of dodge. I have used this spot 3 times and have never been shot from there and there's loads of targets at that CP, it's constantly changing hands.

Basically any spot overlooking this CP is good killing.
