Every single time I hit join game I get booted to Windows...what is the deal?

I have installed the newest editions of Punk Buster and have installed the full 1.3 patch, yet it is still doing it.  I don't understand how one week ago my game worked fine and now it is crashing every time.

Happens to me every now and then too man.  Try uninstalling your video card drivers and installing the newest version.

Part of the problem for me was that old drivers were conflicting and causing it to crash.

Just a thought

stryyker..I hope your right, cause I've only had the game less than a week and just the last 2 days have had nothing but problems.First was lag,but my pings show below 50..then comes BF2 not shutting down after clicking Quit, music keeps playing, now today I can not even play a game..Every server I go to crashes to desktop.I got just 2 games in today earlier, but as of now Nothing..
I'm in the process at this moment of defraggin my harddrive. But if you say just reinstall the patch, then I'll give that a whirl, cause my buddy isn't having the problems I am having. In fact I had him on my Nextel telling me he is able to get online when the both of us were going to the same server.
Kinda aggravating to not even have a game a week and have nothing but problems days after purchasing it.

Yeah man the new patch has it's problems, but BF2 is a really fun game.

Just wait until these are fixed, then trust me, you will have fun

well I did a defrag of my harddrive and updated my video drivers, ran hitman pro 2 for spyware and junk.Still can not get into a server.
Tried to uninstall BF2 and to my surprise,NO uninstaller..I even tried to reinstall the 1.3 Patch and got ..No BF2 install folder can be found! And it wouldn't install it..
I guess my next step is today call tech support and give the person on the other end a chance to strap themselves in,before I unload on them.

If you need to do a manual uninstall, follow the instructions in this thread. http://games.thehavennet.org.uk/showthread.php?t=1470

Worked for me.

After 20 minutes on the phone with EA Tech Support and trying everything they had said while on the phone, nothing fixed the problem. So their recommendation was to uninstall the game and try again.Since I do not have a uninstaller for the game, they sent me a file on how to manually uninstall it..Not sure if anyone else would need this file to uninstall it,but I saved it for future use.
I'm right now reinstalling Patch 1.22 and not installing 1.3
I wanna see for sure if it is the patch without a shadow of a doubt.

Problem - Crash to Desktop on Joining a online Server.
Cause - No CDKEY in Registry / Uninstalling BF1942 on a system that has BF2 on it.
Fix - If you have the Uninstalling BF1942 issue, skip this bit and read the part below.
Use battlefield2_code.exe to re-enter your CDKEY, this can be located in the support folder of where you installed battlefield 2 on your Hard-Drive.
After re-entering your CDKEY you must then reapply the latest patch in order for it to be encrypted into the registry.
This Program can also be used. ftp://ftp.ea-europe.com/UK_Support/EAGA … yCheck.exe

If you have the Uninstalling BF1942 issue, read on from here.

You must remove BF2 manually and reinstall it. Here's how: (modified slightly from EA's instructions to preserve settings/config):

Save your settings/configs:
* Open My Documents, rename "Battlefield 2" folder to "Battlefield 2 previous"

Delete the game files:
* Find your installation of Battlefield 2 (default: c:\Program Files\EA Games\Battlefield 2) and delete it.

Remove registry entries:
1. Click on the Start button.
2. Click on Run.
3. Type regedit in the text field.
4. Click File and then choose Export.
5. Name the file Backup and make sure the Export Range is set to All.
6. Click Save; you will now be returned to the Registry Editor window.
7. Click the plus sign next to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE.
8. Click the plus sign next to Software.
9. Click the plus sign next to DICE.
10. Right-click on the Battlefield 2 folder and choose Delete.
11. Click the plus sign next to Electronic Arts.
12. Right-click and choose Delete on any Battlefield 2 folders.
13. Click the plus sign next to Microsoft.
14. Click the plus sign next to Windows.
15. Click the plus sign next to CurrentVersion.
16. Click the plus sign next to Uninstall.
17. Right-click on the key named {04858915-9F49-4B2A-AED4-DC49A7DE6A7B} and choose Delete.
18. A Confirm Key Delete window will appear, choose Yes.
19. Close the WindowsRegistry Editor.

Battlefield 2 is now completely removed from your system.

Re-installation:
1. Reinstall Battlefield 2
2. Apply latest patch
3. Open My Documents, Rename "Battlefield 2" folder to "Battlefield 2 old" (this is the freshly installed settings directory which you may want to keep just in case).
4. Rename "Battlefield 2 previous" (your settings before BF2 stopped working) to "Battlefield 2"

I only crash when I hit the join button after the map first loads. If I let it auto-ready then everything works fine.
this was the key for me...I never hit join game or esc and just let the game send me in.  sometimes it takes a while, but it hasn't crashed yet... thanks for the help everyone.

Just a note to those of you that don't have auto-ready on, go to options before selecting a server and click the auto ready box.  From that point forward you will always see the auto-ready box checked at the bottom of your screen when it is done loading the map.  It works perfectly fine now.
