'smug' says the guy who humblebrags about their charity participation and active politicking. keep at it of course but let's be real about it lol.
Could we not argue about who is smugger please?
I may buy a hybrid in which case I will win that.

caring for animals is much easier than caring for people. it's no surprise that most people who are super passionate about animal care and preservation are also very transparently compensating for or retreating from human interactions (or lack thereof). and it makes obvious sense, doesn't it? animal charity is a simple transaction in which animal gratitude is beamed back at you. pure, uncomplicated, without the taint of complex messy human relationships.

by contrast, even with the best will in the world, trying to deal with homeless people can piss you off. human beings often don't want to help themselves. they get caught in nets of freudian self-annihilation. the more effort you spend on them, the deeper they seem to get in their own holes. that's hard work. throwing a bunch of money at a dog shelter and feeling the dopamine glow as you survey all their stupid wagging tails is a fucking cakewalk in comparison.
My sister gives to animal charities, I give to people charities.
Also we took in a dumpster cat. At least we assume she is - any time she has access to a bin she dives in head first and burrows to the bottom.
If we don't catch her fast enough all we can see is her feet.
Everything is great

my first comment re: that was about water bottles. you kept going about datacenters. the mass hoarding and repurposing of consumer electronics and the erection of secretive windowless warehouse eyesores probably isn't a great shot in the arm blah blah blah and so forth. we can talk about bottled water again if you'd like.

what's your favorite brand of bpa-laced microplastics smoothie?

Poland spring. I grew up with a water cooler in my house. I had one in my apartment for awhile but got rid of it when the water started tasting funny. Replaced it with a fridge or plastic bottles.

you're supposed to clean those things every few months at least. i'm not a huge fan of jugs of water sitting around on the counter for weeks at a time, anyway. seems like a good way for bacteria to build up.

isn't pretty much the only requirement for any brand of bottled water that they pass tapwater tests? unless you're living in flint or some other shithole, just get one of those charcoal filter jugs and refill it at your kitchen sink.
