a guy was talking up cargo container homes today. he thinks it's about as easy as setting up a level foundation, running the plumbing, wiring, insulation, hvac, flooring, walls, ceiling, doing the lighting, cutting windows, doors, opening up more area by attaching more cargo containers. didn't consider additional framing or abatement of industrial treatments.

he's of the impression that it's really cheap and he'll just DIY. having done other projects with him (non-biz), it would be a disaster in the making. he has little patience for finesse, and even less if it's hot outside. i've literally sat in a car for a couple hours reading while a fencing project was kicking him in the butt and he was trying to figure out what to do. no remorse. i like the guy, but i'm not going to spend idle time leaning on a shovel on immediate standby while the ground bakes my feet through the soles of my shoes for the sake of some indecisive weekend project.

i also don't feel bad disabusing him of that enthusiasm. a stacked cargo container home project would probably kill him.

for something of mine, i think i'd stick with normal building materials where i can construct a place in the shape i want. unless i feel the need to live in a faraday cage out of fallout 4.

i am extremely open to the idea of moving the rest of my stuff that should be in storage into a cargo container, though. have fun chainsawing into that!

Americans are going to start living in shipping containers and then wonder how we ended up here.

I was trying to run cat6 cable through my walls a while back and having a fucking pain. Im trying to add a few more routers to corners of the house and the ol lady wants poe security cameras (dont get me started, we live in suburban boringville USA, we are fucking fine).
An electrician friend said to stop making life harder on myself and just run it outside the house. So the past few days Ive been cutting and adding pvc conduit to the outside and its coming together, despite the eyesore of tubes on my house. Almost done but the damn foundation goes so far up on my daylight basement that getting a hole in the side is a fuckin pain.

i was under the impression that modern wifi standards/mesh networks are pretty much faster than cabled ethernet? unless you have fancy routers/network switches that go way beyond the normal home PC mobo standard, of course.

(i know next to nothiing about networking so that may be way off).

back when i was adamant about gaming (1337 pr0) on ethernet connections, there were devices to turn your home power sockets into a long ethernet daisychain. seemed to work okay - not sure about things like noise or packet loss.

I believe at this point if you have wifi9 or whatever version theyre on and a solid mesh system, you should be golden. Those systems can be pricey and I have a 3 older wifi routers I use as access points instead of routers. Lastly in order to take advantage of your wifi9 system and the super speeds, you need newer devices that can use it and my old as fuck TV and phone most assuredly do not.

The camera/flood light system we bought for my girlfriend's place uses solar panels and wifi. I am skeptical of solar powered anything but I think they have gotten a ton more reliable since the early 200Xs. All of the other solar panels stuff she has bought actually works really well.

Solar has been making absolute ridiculous strides in the past 10 years. The US has decided that gas an oil companies decide youll continue paying them rather than taking advantage of new better tech

Yeah, I am convinced of the tech now.

Also, I wiped out the small hornet nest. I used raid anti-wasp spray and shoot a stream directly at the queen.

Then I had to use a garbage picker to actually pull the thing off the roof. Poking it with a broom doesn't work. Those things are glued tight.
