In loco parentis as a doctrine seems quite reasonable to me. Parents entrust their children to education (as required by law) for many hours in a day. You're responsible for your kids (your kids, as you've put it before) learning and (lol america) safety. As a high school teacher, the task should be even less onerous. Aren't at least some of the students a bit more self-sufficient as older teens? Who calls for a baby sitter for a 16-year-old?
