Of course I am bias towards freeloading off the government but I have absolutely no ill will towards anyone who does. The government spends trillions dropping bombs on Afghanistan but people catch a fit about a kid getting a turkey sandwich he didn't deserve. Wait! We can't use Afghanistan as an excuse anymore.
It looks like I've finally made it off of fulltime night shift after 8 and a half years. They opened up a 2nd shift position that goes from 1PM to 9:30PM. Not exactly a normal 9-5:30 or 10-6:30 like I wanted, but since it's 2nd shift, I do get to keep my $3 an hour shift differential and it's still way better than 11PM to 7:30AM, I'll actually be able to go experience night life on my nights off without being tired as fuck, which I haven't had the luxury to do for a ridiculously long time in my life. It feels so sudden and unceremonious but I didn't have time to fuck around and think about it, my manager and supervisor knew I'd been trying to get to dayshift for the past year, so my manager made me answer by the end of the night before they could possibly hire somebody else for it.
did you get to touch her dreadlocks?
How do you think I got the position?
Got a $4000 TEACH grant from the U.S. government.
Job interview went well. The lady interviewing me (would be directly reporting to her) was a fucking bulldog at the start but I won her over with my experience and charm.
I had a phone interview on Tuesday and yesterday one of the principals of the company reached out to me directly the next sat.
Had an amazing date last night.
Might buy a car tomorrow.
Just a few good things that have happened in my life lately.

Got turned down for a job I'm overqualified for. I tried to explain that at such a small company that may be a good thing since as it grows I'll be ready for it rather than having entry-level people over their head and needing to hire more. But they were hearing none of it.
Back on the grind shotgunning resumes into the void.
Haven't been on a date in forever.
Praying my $2k car doesn't rattle its bolts every time I drive over 40mph.
tldr: fuck you ken.
Naw kidding happy things are going well. Keep killing it my dude.

My contract has been ended, a bit foolish as my work is incomplete - waiting for others to do their bit - and they haven't bothered to ask how incomplete.
All in all a weird situation, I resigned in a huff, my replacement couldn't do half the work I did and was so lazy only did about half the work he could do.
So to replace me they had to hire two people one of whom was me. A colleague who was also critical resigned a while back, now five people are doing his job so he beat me there.
The manager who I worked with for years brought me back in and retired and was replaced by two people - together they did less useful work than him - my new direct manager was a big baby who wouldn't say boo to a goose and gave me literally not a word of direction in 12 months, nor could he do anything to remove the roadblocks preventing me doing my work - so not proactive or reactive and couldn't manage up, down or sideways, ie wholly useless as a manager.
I did cause a bit of trouble for both of them but got a pat on the back from the CEO for doing it so fuck them.
All in all its been a blast, paid more than I've ever been paid, total autonomy, four day week, plenty of WFH, got some neat work through the workshop, for the last three months I did literally nothing but whatever I felt like and very little actual work, there being little point in adding logs to a logjam.
Pretty sure they're going to need me back again when they realise what needs to be done and they have no idea how to do it, two critical defence builds are coming up which I know they'll fail to do. For one thing they've thrown out some of the equipment they need which is going to make it hard.
I'm going to put my hourly rate up at least 20% if they want me medium term, or 50% if its day by day.
Meanwhile there's a job much closer to home which is as perfect a fit as could be, building lots of fun stuff including sniper rifles for the Army.
I almost don't care what the pay is. No guarantee I'll get it but I'm due for a break so if I don't get it I won't care.

Had a third interview at the aerospace company today, with 2 different people than before. About an hour after the end of the interview the HR rep called and said they are extending an offer. It's a significant raise and puts me firmly onto an executive track. It's a good thing to have, but it's also causing me to second-guess whether I want to actually take on more stress and responsibility. I have a second stage interview at another company where the pay would be about 20% less (but still a raise from my current spot), but the work culture sounds better and less stressful.
My current company will no doubt try to match any offer I get, especially at this current moment in time, but I'm 99% certain I will go somewhere else. A change in scenery is something I think I need.

You should take the executive route. God put enough hours in the day to dissipate stress.
Congrats by the way.

I made it into a video of internet violence. Like a video will forever exist on the internet of me in the middle of a violent event.
Not me but it is in this vein.

Just work out what you'll have to shell out for executive stress relief and see if thats higher or lower than the net salary difference after tax.KEN-JENNINGS wrote:

I'm guessing you can't claim it as a deduction.

I picked 40 cherry tomatoes today. I have a big bowl of them. Can't post a picture here though.
Eat them within a couple days at least. Very annoying to keep fresh.
Very annoying eating so much tomatoes. I can't imagine what subsistence farming must be like.
Maybe one day I will have Chris Kyle money and can drive my F-350 full of produce and marijuana to the farmers market.

Make a salad. You'll burn through those cherry tomatoes in like two bowls if you're generous.
Subsistence farming is alright, if you have the time and space. Mostly as a supplement to normal shopping. Mostly, grow stuff that's expensive but grows well in your area with minimal expense. Like off-the-vine cherry tomatoes, I guess. Also herbs. Freaking $10 for a small jar of dried herb I could easily grow like 50 jars worth of in a season, man.
Bonus if the stuff you grow easy to dry or otherwise preserve. Vegetable garden >>>>>>> grass lawns.

Between bird shit and urban pollution you should wash everything.

The Tomato Question has occupied two threads in a short period of time. Mac needs to make or necro a gardening thread.
I am probably going on a trip to either Spain or France.
