Aus trip

So planning a trip to Aus in January, pretty much got it all booked and planned, but i can change anything free of charge, so any hints or tips would be nice. What to avoid, where to stay etc. etc.

7th leave london, arrive in Singapore on the 8th, few days, arrive in Sydney on the 11th.
Got a hostel booked until the 14th in Sydney, then was gonna take Greyhound bus to Gold coast (would it be better to fly? was going to get 2000km pass and use it later on as well)
Gold Coast 15th - 18th Fly to Melbourne
Melbourne 18th - 21st, bus to Adelaide on the 22nd
Adelaide until about the 26th (staying with friends), then bus to Sydney and fly home on 27th or so just swapping planes on the way back.

Budget is about $3700 not including flights, I know it should be enough, and would prefer not to spend all of it for the sake of it, but have some leeway to do more stuff.

I think theme parks are a token if youre going to the gold coast.

I'm not sure why anyone would want to go on a bus a long distance, thats for backpackers and ferals.

There's really bugger all to see between Melbourne and Adelaide, the train trip is dull, by road less interesting.
I don't know about Sydney to Gold Coast.

If you're coming here you ought to see some outback.

Also - vegemite behind the ears.

Seems okay. Try not to just stick to the cities though otherwise you're not actually going to see much Australia and have a pretty humdrum experience.

And when they say Vegemite behind the ears they mean Vegemite. Marmite or any other yeast-based spread isn't going to do it.

So spend less time in cities and more time in between? Not sure I have enough time to do much of that.
Need to go to Adelaide to see friends, and been told Melbourne is worth a visit. But would also like to go towards Gold Coast area.
Better idea to fly direct instead of bus? or what?

Time spent on a bus is just wasted. Between cities there is mostly nothing, except some of the coastal roads can be worth a drive.

Better to fly city-city and arrange trips to see specific things.

If you can afford it, try flying. I'd imagine the roads at this time of year coming up might be a bit more traffic heavy, though I dunno about mid-January. Also, you miss out on my birthday by 3 days.

I imagine you'll be going to the beach. The spit is alright, quite nice to walk along the pier and whatnot. Avoid the beach at night, because thats where the cruising homosexuals go to fornicate (its known as fags beach, really). Surfers paradise at night is alright if its a weeknight, which is good because you're here tuesday to friday.

You could possibly get one of those passes that allows you to go between theme parks, but since you're here for only a few days I dunno if you want to spend two thirds of your time cramped in some theme park. Dreamworld and Whitewater world would have a deal and would be good to switch between for a day but I dunno what the prices are like and what the deals are.

The hinterland here is boring, for your time here its probably not worth it.

ah fuck, what else... shit I dunno. Have you any idea on where you might stay? Hotel prices here might be a bit much if you havent booked them already, and you may be hard pressed to find something at this time that isnt booked, so you may have to settle for some place that is a bit out of the way. Also, are you hiring a car? I'd prolly recommend getting a shitty car for the days you're here. Public transport sucks major dick and to get anywhere might take fucking ages. Sometimes it takes over an hour just to travel 30-40km. There are some places in surfers that rent out cars and shit, but I dunno what their prices are like.

ahhhhh, dunno what else to say really. Only that you should be prepared to spend lots of your money.
