a funny thing is how all the world leaders (incl. obama) immediately responded with terrorist-hunting rhetoric a la bush post-9/11, obviously implying that they assumed the perpetrators were muslim extremists (no intelligence supported this, only some random group trying to get some news-coverage) but have since hastily had their P.R. teams and press secretaries change and doctor their responses to something more neutral and non muslim hating.

this is an entirely ludicrous image
it looks like something you'd get on a corny advertising billboard circa 1998 trying to sell a mobile phone or something

It's so crazy how much blood a single man can spill. I can't imagine what kind of sick person it takes to commit such a crime. I've been shooting dozens of times and couldn't dream of pointing the gun at anybody, it's such a hair-raising thought. I wonder how all those snipers with several hundred kills from WW2 feel.menzo wrote:

You just proved lowings entire argument of 'relegion of peace' by that statement.Uzique wrote:
i do not see how you can separate one's beliefs on such issues from his 'motives'. would a christian fundamentalism not influence a hatred of muslim immigration? do you think the hatred is completely economical?
Sad shit to be honest. Welcome to the party Norway...

Get ready you know that politicians will be all over it, and any other reason they can come up with to explain this madman.

I guess you didn't read my previous posts but that's ok.
On a more D&ST note, how* (edit for SP*) strict is Norway about possessing weapons? And how the hell does nobody think a cop heading to a youth camp with a shotgun, a pistol, a scoped rifle, and tons of ammo not weird? He should have been stopped at the ferry.

Thread cleaned up. If you think a post is objectionable, then use the "Report" button. Vigilante attacks on a member will derail a thread and get you banned.
Maybe if the Norwegians had some way to defend themselves he could have been dead before 92 people were.
I'm not too sure how I feel about people having guns.
There are too many idiots that shouldn't have guns, but guns are a very useful self-defense measure. It's also a little uncomfortable to be around people with guns, but at the same time they protect you.
meh...I donno, I think it's better overall if most people are armed to protect themselves.

When people can defend themselves sufficiently people are less likely to instigate.eleven bravo wrote:

Where did you get "a shotgun, a pistol, a scoped rifle"? It was a pistol and a handgun.
He was carrying it in a bag.
There was no ferry, he used his own boat (I assume)
in fairness to shifty the BBC had a suvivor of the island on tv saying the guy was carrying a 'rifle, a sniper'

This isn't a gun law issue for fucks sake.
Really? Hmm, the police said he was carrying an "automatic rifle" and a pistol.
Anyways, there is genuinely no one I have more sympathy for than his mother. Imagine having your son go out and do that. Apparently she had no idea; they lived a quiet, peaceful life in the better parts of Oslo, he was quiet and modest, and his mother was always proud of him. He came home every sunday for dinner, and spent the rest of the week 'working' on his farm (read: planning).
I can't imagine the hell she's going through right now.
