It can be a cheap hobby, you don't need to spend megabucks at all.
The equipment whores usually come last.

If you only shoot .22LR, sure.  Otherwise it tends to get pricey.

A person I went to school with posted a video on facebook of them firing .22 CB's through a rifle. Really quiet bullet.

I googled it and apparently the bullet doesn't use any gun powder. Considering the lack of powder isn't the bullet really weak? It would suck to get hit with it of course but what kind of damage would someone be looking at after taking one of those?

with those all you hear from my .22 is the click of the pin dropping

the "damage" they do is compared to a higher end air rifle

Not really, if you reload and use unjacketed projectiles the cost is barely much more than premium .22 ammo.

If you cast your own it can be cheaper.

They use the pressure from the exploding primer.

Have a reference book somewhere (AMCP 706-106, iirc) with illustrations of various primers being ignited, the burn energies, and burn efficiency.
Don't feel like going upstairs to get it.

TL;DR version - Do NOT have your hand in the way of a detonating primer.

Essentially, a rifle primer is 0.03 grams of high explosive being shock-detonated, to initiate the controlled burning of the 'gunpowder'.
So, about 225 Joules of energy (RDX is about 7500 J/gm, as I remember... and Federal 210M primers are close to RDX for burn energy).

Yielding about 225 Joules of energy, just from the primer.
Quick back-of-envelope math here, propels a 30 grain .22 projectile at about 450 fps, and a 20 grain .22 projectile at about 575 fps.

(0.03 gm x 7500 J/gm, 33% efficiency)

Similar, but not the same. The shotgun from BFBC2 is Neostead 2000 (NS2000).
The Keltec KSG is new. The MSRP is around $800.

It's a .45 ACP round. Seen the AR-15/ m-4 rifles that shoot .45's. Question is does the round have a higher velocity through the "16 barrel? Does the barrel have one full twist (groove) inside? Curious but never looked it up.

last at what?

If your interest is just pulling a trigger and hearing a gunshot I'm sure you could get by with single .22 rifle.  If your interest is the mechanical and aesthetic form and function of firearms and academic participation isn't enough you're gonna need friends who will tolerate your freeloading ass or you're gonna need to spend some money.

Last at winning, generally.

Things like benchrest rifle are obviously different, money buys trophies there.
