I like how a simple statement and a question starts a debate on these forums.  But, yea i've done a lot of research about what i've wanted over the past couple years and I may now have a reason to get one.  Never fired a gun though.  I was "wanting" a 10mm auto, but thats probably overkill.  I also looked at the R700 SPS models for target practice.(Large range next to military base south of here.)  Probably want a .308.  Not really into mag although the .338 mag is cool.

Modern revolver vs modern auto
- Which is more reliable
- Which is less likely to result in an accidental discharge in the heat of the moment, while re-holstering, loading, unloading etc
Reliability: About the same.
Negligent discharges: Glocks probably have more because people are stupid, the trigger is lighter, and you have to pull the trigger during disassembly.
I doubt there's any quantifiable difference in reliability between a quality modern auto and a quality modern revolver.Dilbert_X wrote:

that's more an issue of training and practical experience than one design being inherently better than the other.- Which is less likely to result in an accidental discharge in the heat of the moment, while re-holstering, loading, unloading etc
like I said, both are gonna go through walls.Trotskygrad wrote:

Went to a new Cabelas today. They've got a pretty good selection. A lot of hunting rifles and shotguns I don't give a shit about, but a decent variety of ARs, target rifles and handguns, even some milsurps.. It was too fucking crowded to get a good look at anything behind the counter or under the glass. The highlight was their "gun library". amongst the overpriced sporting shotguns and obsolete-caliber winchesters sat a beautiful, used Shiloh Sharps model 1874 Hartford target rifle in 45-70. Shiloh is arguably the best modern Sharps manufacturer. It was $2k but I was really fucking tempted to buy it. The basic rifle retails for $2k brand new, but that rifle had the optional $1k bull barrel and at least a semi-fancy wood grade. And ordering a new one usually comes with at least a 6 month wait. I had my wallet in my hand weighing the decision and if a salesman had come along at the right moment I probably would have walked out with it. I may go back and get it. The thing is a piece of functional, mechanical art.
I've posted this shit before.Trotskygrad wrote:

I stood in line for four hours. They better give me a Wal-Mart gift card, or something.  - Rodney Booker, Job Fair attendee.

Wouldn't having a machine gun lose some it's novelty after a while? Sure it would be awesome for a day or something, but what do you do after a while?

Anyone know where I can get stocks for a Rem 700 in Canada? I want a McMillan-style if possible, to fit a 24" barrel in .308, used for target shooting.
