Like I said : THEY HAVE BEEN TRYING TO KILL AMERICANS FOR AWHILE. They suddenly won't get any better at doing what they have been trying to do for awhile now. They won't be able to kill the people they have been trying to kill forever because they are suddenly more angry.

In any case I still don't think a free advanced mostly non-Muslim country should change itself in order to placate a closed 3rd world Muslim country. That whole cultural relativity thing works both ways you know

Latter one certainly being more unpredictable and because of that, more dangerous.

Did I tell you there's nothing to worry about? No.

I told you that almost everyone in that part of the world is a Muslim so people shouting there's going to be an "Islamic" backlash is kind of an unnecessary statement. They're all followers of Islam.

What it does tell is that the people shouting such stuff can't actually seem to separate belief and political and/or emotional motivation.

Well gee, this Muslim leader disagrees with you, oh and, he is addressing "ALL MUSLIMS".. Now, why would he have to do that if there really isn't anything thing to worry about?

Because Osama's followers are most certainly muslim? (Osama himself was religiously motivated)

Knowing that, do you feel it's somehow "special" that the backlash could potentially (almost certainly) come from people with a muslim background?

Again, did I tell you there was nothing to worry about? No.

The debate is rather "was it really necessary to kill him while he was unarmed?".

Over here you'll hear a resounding no from almost anyone. Not that I don't agree with the way things were conducted, I really don't give much of a shit that he was shot, and you'll find many people share that opinion. But still, it's worthy of a little debate.

By the way I will just mention that this quote

Many Europeans struggled to understand the open celebrations in the streets of New York and Washington earlier this week.

"While many nations suffered from al Qaeda's terrorism and few in the world will mourn bin Laden's death, the United States is the only place where it sparked spontaneous outpourings of raucous jubilation," wrote columnist Gary Younge in Britain's left-leaning Guardian newspaper.

"The initial euphoria in the United States may be quite difficult for people in Western Europe to take, but in one sense is understandable in the context. The 9-11 attacks were perhaps more visceral than most people expected. The impact on the United States was more deep-seated," said Paul Rogers, professor of Peace Studies at the University of Bradford.
comes from people who are extremely shortsighted. I will bet my ass on it that all my grandparents threw a party when they heard Hitler shot himself, and that sure as hell can't be labelled as being immoral.

Also the picture that's being drawn in that article of the people here is incredibly wrong. Yeah, there's debate about it - just as much as there is in the US itself. On CNN there's an article about a poll in a college class, 50% was uneasy with the celebrations 50% wasn't. About the same deal here I reckon.

So I feel the term "many" is misleading as it suggest a majority or something.

I was upset about the celebrations not because of moral implications but because I didn't think people were that dumb.

Actually the man still was very relevant in fighting terrorism.

Anyway, I don't care about the people cheering. Ya I guess it's a bit strange for college kids who haven't lost anything through this whole 'war on terror' thing to start cheering out in the streets, but I also saw pictures of firefighters in NY from 11. They deserve it.

Oh Jeses H fucking Christ.

A politician here in NZ called Hone Harawira, (or should I say former politiian,) has praised bin Laden as a "freedom fighter", pointing out that is customary for Maori to mourn the deceased and says bin Laden's life should be celebrated. He compares bin Laden to Te Kooti who was a Maori guerilla leader. I wont go into it but I studied Te Kooti and there is almost no similarity between them.

Also this "It's customary for Maori to mourn the deceased-" oh fuck off Harawira, it's customary for Maori to fucking eat their enemy.

He wants people to celebrate the 'positive aspects of his life'. I say that we are: His death.

Maybe the reason Maori mourn the deceased is because they would get sick after eating them.

So Obama ordered a raid instead of a drone strike because he wanted proof, for the American public, that they killed Osama but now refuses to release the pictures of the body or the raid video. Uh huh.
Ummm, have you seen the area that the raid took place in? Pretty heavily populated civilian area that was near Pakistan's equivalent to West Point. Do you really think a drone strike wouldn't end in civilian casualties? Not to mention the lack of communication between the US and Pakistan forces would probably lead to some kind of conflict.
