Gee, I don’t know marine. Maybe this proves to the people in the rest of the region that it is actually possible to remove their dictators that have been sitting in power for more than 2 decades.

Apparently, before they fled, Ben Ali's wife went to the bank and and "withdrew" 1.5 metric tons of gold, by putting pressure on the bank director, who initially refused.
Also, according to the Tunisian ex-ambassador in Paris, Ben Ali instructed the presidential guard to spark a civil war and funded them with money and weapons. He supposedly even gives instruction by phone from his exile.

Meanwhile, the angry mob in Tunisia are systematically ransacking mansions, banks and other assets owned by Ben Ali and his corrupt family clan. One nephew extremely corrupt nephew has been stabbed.

The army is now fighting the presidential guard.

Um...  I don't know where you're getting your numbers, but the occupation of Iraq is more expensive than the rebuilding of Germany was.

What Numbers are you talking about I never spoke of cost Just time. But for the record Yea a 3 bedroom house went for $4000 back then and a fighter plane 60000.

PS There are Germans in Germany for the most part.

I did...

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Marshall_Plan

The U.S. contributed $13 billion to the Marshall Plan.  This includes rebuilding more than just Germany, actually.  When adjusted for inflation, that amounts to about $115 billion in present day dollars.

The occupation of Iraq has cost us about $704 billion.   http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Financial_ … e_Iraq_War

It's hard to believe, but it's true.  Even if we include another $12 billion spent on general aid given to Europe during that time, that still only brings the total up to $220 billion.

A lot of the reason for this is that warfare nowadays is extremely expensive.  The cutting edge technologies we employ for attacks and surveillance cost a shitload.  Also, nation building is much more expensive today because of corruption among an oligopolistic group of contractors.   For obvious reasons, not many companies have the resources needed to nation build, so the few that we have to pick from end up milking the situation for all it's worth.

As of February 2010, around $704 billion has been spent based on estimates of current expenditure rates,[1] which range from the Congressional Research Service (CRS) estimate of $2 billion per week to $12 billion a month, an estimate by economist Joseph Stiglitz.[2]

Those figures are significantly more than typical estimates published just prior to the start of the Iraq War, many of which were based on a shorter term of involvement. For example, in a March 16, 2003 Meet the Press interview of Vice President Dick Cheney, held less than a week before the Iraq War began, host Tim Russert reported that "every analysis said this war itself would cost about $80 billion, recovery of Baghdad, perhaps of Iraq, about $10 billion per year. We should expect as American citizens that this would cost at least $100 billion for a two-year involvement."

All of that was taken from the Financial Costs of Iraq War wiki link.

There's also this.  http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Iraq_Relie … ction_Fund

See the appropriations section of the Financial Costs of Iraq War link for more details.
