I always thought "I'm away to have a shower" was short for "I'm just going away now, to have a shower"
That's exactly what it is, I don't see a problem with it. But I suppose I have grown up with it.
the problem with it is that you're making 'away' into the active verb, whereas it's very much the 'going' part that is operative and important
technically "i'm going to have a shower" as a common-phrase is shortened and 'lazy'... "i am going away to have a shower" would fill it out more
