75-300 III is... meh. Definitely get the 55-250 IS if youre looking for a new lens, very much worth the extra $100 over the 75-300 III. For ultra wide, I would recommend a Tokina 11-16 2.8. Pricey, but very high quality, fast, and sharp as a tack. For flower and light bug macros, the Canon 100mm 2.8 macro (L version or not) is amazing, also great for portraits. You can also do the cheap thing and buy an old manual 50mm 1.8, some adapters, reversing ring, and extension tubes. That wont run you more than $80 if you do it right
