the 5770 has it beat but if you are not complaining about game play then why change?
the other option is to sell the 9800gt and add that money to what you were going to spend on a 5770 and get a 58xx card?

The 9800GT has a 256bit memory bus, and if I'm not mistaken the 5770 has a 128bit memory bus.

Honestly, I'd take the 9800GT for free.

If your mobo and PSU can handle SLI, get the free 9800 and buy another. Thats the way to go there.

It's FREE!

And it's silly to upgrade 'because you want to', save the money to get a proper upgrade in a years time or more, when you really need it.

if you only play BF2, you can run that fine with 9800GT. I get constant 100FPS (cba to unlock it) with a 8800GT which is essentially the same thing as 9800GT.

Wattage says nothing. I bought a cheap Dell years ago with a 320W PSU. It pulled my dedicated GPU upgrade some years later easily, even though looking at wattage it shouldn't have. It's all about how much power is on which rails.

this is kind of on the same topic, but don't want to overtake his ?

mine is: I currently have a 9800gt 512mb, should I upgrade to a different nvidia card (nvidia only mobo. i fail), or get another 9800gt for sli?
would like to keep it around $100-$150.
game to be played: All Points Bulletin

Also, if I get another 9800gt, will it be ok to get a 1gb one, or is that asking for trouble? and do they need to be from the same manufacturer (Evga)?

currently what happens when I play it: When bullits start flying my fps goes down the drain. I think its because of the empty cartridges/shells flying across the screen. I also lag in one part of downtown district (if any here played the beta and may know what I'm talking about). It was around this building surrounded by water I believe, kind of like a 'city square'. Currently the game doesn't have video customization (just low, medium, high, max), so maybe I should just wait till it comes out and give a month or 2 to be polished some?

I'm actually looking at upgrading from a 9800GT to a HD 5850, mainly because I want to max out the games I play and pull decent framerates to record with FRAPS.  I've done some researching, but I thought I'd ask: Would an E8400 be a significant bottleneck to a 5850?

EDIT: Or should I buy the cheaper 5770, and would I still notice a significant increase in performance?  I want to game at 1920 X 1200 at max or close to max settings.

I know my 500 PSU is weak and outdated but i built my system back in late 2007 and it was all i needed and could afford at the time.

I play BF2,BFBC2 , BF2142, BF1942, COD4, COD5 and L4D

Depends on what you're playing, settings etc.

The whole idea of bottlenecking is far, far more complex than will this CPU bottleneck that GPU. Having a faster GPU always has advantages, even if there are areas where the CPU cannot keep up with the GPU. You can always whack the AA up with a faster GPU - that doesn't add any strain to the CPU and makes stuff look nicer.
