It's not derailed, it just didn't have the outcome you intended it to have. I think you expected all of us to jump on the bandwagon of punishing 'evil corporations'. Wrong crowd.ruisleipa wrote:

Well, if you weren't working on your lowing impersonation it would be worthwhile to talk to you. You've shown repeatedly on many topics that you think people are stupid and that you should have the power to force them to conform to what you feel is 'right'. Life doesn't, and shouldn't work that way. For as much as you throw out references to Hitler when referring to other peoples point of view, you should look at your own critically sometime.Dilbert_X wrote:

Lets take it one step further and genetically engineer all children so they have the same IQ, the same skin color and are the same size so that no one is bullied, no one does better in class than anyone else and no one can be stereotyped based on the color of their skin. Fuck it, lets just neuter everyone at birth and instead of producing children the old fashioned way, we'll just clone the perfect specimens, one male, one female, and not have to worry about anyone being 'disadvantaged' ever again.

Frankly, my parents were capable of creating a situation where they rarely had to say no. I knew what was reasonable and what wasn't, especially when it came to buying crap.

Sure, you're free to detail your own subjective example, whilst I'm pointing out the bigger picture.
Rap music? Rap music was organic and became popular because people enjoyed it (with a helping hand from MTV). All marketing did was make it even more popular than it was and bring it out of the 'underground'. It already existed well before it was marketed.Dilbert_X wrote:

Not really, but are you really going to say it wouldn't have stayed in the ghetto, become mainstream and millions of kids wouldn't have been sucked into the 'culture' without a huge marketing effort?JohnG@lt wrote:

That's not something we'll ever know now will we? It could've happened. Celebrating black culture has been going on for a good hundred years now as a way for white kids to 'get back' at their parents. First it was jazz, then it was the blues, then rock music, now rap. It all became mainstream because kids like pissing off their parents.Dilbert_X wrote:

Right, because it only works one way. Arguing from a position of government intervention and authoritarianism and calling the person arguing for freedom Hitler doesn't work. It's asinine and backwards.ruisleipa wrote:
