I can't help but feel disappointed though. It was such a great start and I was looking forward to more. They started about here,

I went on their myspace and they've got a 3rd album out, and sounds like they're still moving in that pop direction. So guess I'll just have to keep listening to Mooger Fooger over and over again.

the original pioneers of the 'idm' sound (the precocious teenage aphex twin can step aside for the minute) deliver this ironic masterpiece. responding to what they saw as the utopian, unrealistic and ultimately unsatisfying failure of brian eno's original ambient 'classic', music for airports, the black dog subversively release a record full of dystopian, dark ambient- full of the menacing looms, the aggravation and the utter, desolate boredom of the 'real' 21st century airport. a concept album that doesn't take itself too seriously, and ultimately a bloody good ambient-electronic release. check it out.

What? Brian Eno's original was a failure? Aww helllllllllllllllllll no! Guess someone didn't read the liner notes. He talks about how it's music that if you pay attention to, you can follow it. But if you're not paying attention, you won't notice it's there. That's exactly what it did for me, and I'm surprised he managed to accomplish that.

of course brian eno's stuff was studied and well thought-out... i think their criticism of his record was that it was just another orthodox, bland, paint-by-numbers 'ambient' album. they recognize that eno is a genius and understands the genre and how to work within its parameters better than possibly anyone else- i guess they feel the concept album didn't reach its potential. that and they wanted to present a modern-take on the gem, adding the sinister undertones present in the modern-day air commute. it's a great companion to the original, really. i don't think they intended to start any feud, or to make any super-serious criticisms of eno and his oeuvre.

And I'm glad you say it's a good companion to the original, because that's the vibe I got from reading the description. Airports today are much different than they were in 1978. When listening to Eno's, I can picture myself in a place and time I never got to experience; a sort of nostalgia for something that was never there. With this, I imagine it will be the reminder of experiences, and further separate Eno's work from theirs (which is what they're after, of course).
