Just lost my second mx518: it cannot hold a mouse click down, and now the clicking regularly takes more force than normal and is erratic.

I feel almost silly buying a third one, thinking it has to do more with the mouse then me (its probably me).

What does everyone suggest (no wireless mice)?

MX518. You have to be pretty damn skilled to break one. I've had one in heavy daily use since 2005 or 2006, and I'll be damned if it doesn't work like new.
The idea of any hi-fi system is to reproduce the source material as faithfully as possible, and to deliberately add distortion to everything you hear (due to amplifier deficiencies) because it sounds 'nice' is simply not high fidelity. If that is what you want to hear then there is no problem with that, but by adding so much additional material (by way of harmonics and intermodulation) you have a tailored sound system, not a hi-fi. - Rod Elliot, ESP

It really must be. I'd presume that most Logitech mice will be of similar build quality and my MX1000 is still working just fine. Had another Logitech mouse before that and  it still works, nothing broke - certainly not the buttons. I can't ever recall anyone I know describing what you've described.

btw, why not wireless? Presumably the usual response time argument?

G500, barring that MX518

I've had two over the course of what...5 years? Extensive use. That is how my first broke though, after 3.5 years or so.

It's not so much that, batteries/charging, availability etc.

Had one for about 3/4 years, heavy use...
No complaints at all bar my little finger drags along my desk when i use it, which is more to do with me and the cord has started to wear where it rubs on the mousemat.

Only problem with my mouse is that it smells after so many years of use. I can go wash my hands, come back and use my mouse for a little while, and my hand will smell like ass. I've wiped it down with alcohol a few times, but it just comes back within a day Inevitably, it's going to be the only reason I would get a new mouse

this.

I went through 2 mx518's too.  I just got a G500 a few months ago for $39 and havent looked back.  the G500 is slightly larger than the 518, it took me a week of gaming to get used to it.

Could I get a more comprehensive opinion on the G500? It looked like the 518 v2 so I figured I would get it the next time my mouse died, but if you could give some specifics on the MX518 -> G500 transition that would be sweet.

I've worn my way through 3 out of the 5 MX518 I've had, though I have only "bought" two of them... 3 year warranty + 1 year lifespand of the mouse1 key = 2 free mice per purchased 1....

Gimmicky? Features-wise it's your standard fare gaming mouse. two thumb buttons, two sensitivity buttons, high dpi range and such. Where it shines is in being really comfortable, reliable, and not having any wireless lag. Beats the logitech "peanut" G5/mx518 design for sure.

they're both completely different designs tailored for users with completely different needs/preferences

logitech are for 'palm' users, razer are for finger-clickers.

I, for example can't stand the thumb-curve in logitech mice so I went for a Deathadder.

In reading reviews (I know they are not everything) reliability was one of the worse things. I think most of those were talking about wireless mode. Do you have to install special software with it?
