Shittest rig here?
Planning to actually upgrade, but will probably get a laptop and then do a desktop build over the summer.

I also have another rig we bought several years ago(before this rig, so like ~4 years ago, for ~$300) that is an Athlon XP(2500+?) ~1.83GHz, 256 MB RAM, and some kind of graphics The guy we bought it from was from our church and he installed some fail pirated XP on it that would constantly pop up the "This copy of Windows is not Genuine" message I sometimes use it as an iPod charger [sarcasm]now that rig's just blazing fast[/sarcasm]

Unfortunately, I didn't have the time, and just didn't get around to it. Stuff with school, scouts, and family got in the way with homework and issues with my dad.

EDIT: My dad had a total personality change after his doctor put him on some medicine, and he spent a ton of money on random crap as well, so we had to deal with that. My Grandma gave me some money to get a laptop, and it's plenty to get a laptop and a desktop, but I want to wait on the desktop until I have the time to actually use it and we can get some other things sorted out, and in case anything comes out that would provide better value.

In PC building, there's always going to be something coming out in the next 2 weeks that will cause a price drop, higher end equipment will be slided towards the bargain bin, etc etc. Unless Intel/AMD/nVidia are going to be releasing something in the next 2 weeks, don't worry about waiting.

This.... you have been talking about building a new PC being just on the horizon for more than a year now, set your budget, get your budget and buy. There will always be something better than what you buy coming out. However right now, everything is better than what you have, take your pick, pretty good, or total crap.

I know, I intend to do just that... I have more leverage to make it happen now because I will need a better PC for one of my classes next year, but right now I don't have time to build one, I was going to get a laptop anyway, so I'll get that soon and use it for homework and stuff until I get a desktop when I've got time and less distractions from homework.

Building a PC does not take as long as building a car... you should be able to easily fit building a PC into your schedule.
My first time took a little over an hour?

While this is true, if he's too busy to use it then it is pointless to build right now.  Once time is available he'll get better hardware for the same or less cash.

How do you manage?!?! You deserve better than that!

Mine was only cheap from IKEA. It's just 2 desks, not a special corner one.

Desk surface was £35, each leg was £2. Cheeeeeap
