MOD EDIT: corrected title -un13

I bought the game today along with the guide and was playing for a few hours.

I don't see why most of you guys were drooling over it a few months back. It was decent but nothing to write home about. My major complaints-

1. Items.
Only being able to carry 70 items sucks. I liked the way KOTOR allowed you to carry an infinite amount of supplies that you had gathered along the way. Being capped off at 70 just adds unnecessary item managing which does more to annoy me than be in awe of the games 'depth'.

2. Magic and skill use.
It was annoying having to have a cool down period between spells. Considering, enemies like to swarm you at times it sucks to not be able to spam out magic spells. So instead of having your mage take off 80%-100% of a coming swarms health with 2 or 3 lightening spells, you had to shoot off one spell than switch to another one or take off 30% to 40% of their health in one shot than retreat backwards and have your melee characters attack while you either use some sort of weak spell or kill your melee character and the swarm with lightening attacks.

3. Injuries.
Having to fix a certain injury after your character gets knocked down isn't fun It doesn't add to depth but just a longer 'find item in inventory, use item' type event that if you choose not to do the mundane task, you get penalized.

4. Spell and item magic.
The inventory and spells system is fucked up. KOTOR had a great system, where you had that one bar that allowed you quick access to all your spells and items. It worked great, DAO's system was shit since you had to go through multiple menus to be able to use your items. It was annoying having a small amount of presets and having to go on a quest to find exactly the item you needed at the right moment.

5. The orcs were boring.
I can't remember the name for them in DAO but we all know they're are orcs. The cutscenes with them were pretty good, especially the first one. But once you fight them in battle, they're are just like every other monster They follow the same battle logic of the rest and were not at all terrifying up close. I didn't realize I was fighting them for the first time in the woods until after since they fought just like the bandits who fought just like the guards who fought just like the soldiers who fight just like the Knights who fought just like the King. complete let down.

So agree or disagree?

1. Inventory management- is good. Being able to hoard half the universe's items in your backpack is silly, having to selectively sell stuff off periodically is an important part of RPGs.

2. No cooldown- err really? Having a tank keep the crap off your mages is the only reason to bring a tank. Otherwise everyone would just take 4 mages (and this is already far too viable).

3. This I kinda agree with, except there are only two injury healing items, a good one and a shit one. Later on you get a spell which autoheals everyone in an AOE- which speeds up this little minigame.

4. What? There's a hotbar at the bottom.

5. Darkspawn aren't the only enemies. You get spiders that drop down from ceilings, and giant dragons and shit.

It sounds like you're playing the console version that has no hotkeys etc. You're bound to get annoyed by having to constantly use menus.

Having said that i've not played the game so thats all I have to say.

Yeah I loked it up online. The PC version has a ultra long menu compared to the PS3 version which has 6 assignable hotkeys.

Why would you even consider buying an RPG on a console!?

The PC game was superb, best game I've played in a long time.  I downloaded the sequel a few days ago but didnt get around to playing it, anyone tried it yet?

Not a sequel... expansion...
It's shorter ofc, around 15 hours (10 if you rush... over 20 if you do everything and delve into codex)
Story is a lil bit shallow compared to Origins.
But overall: It's more Dragon Age!
Story is still superb compared to other games these days. Characters are hilarious (Anders = cross between Zevran and Alistair)

Yeah, its the definition of a sequel lol.  It continues the story where the first one ended.

Storyline is not enough to keep me playing if the basic crux of the game is completely boring.

Make WoW, singleplayer, with good graphics, and you've got me. This isn't WoW. It isn't even close to as enjoyable.

Wait, you're saying this game is bad but WoW is good?  Yeah, you have a right to criticize it

This game isnt meant to be anything like WoW anyway.  WoW cannot be single player, it would be even more boring than it already is.  How can this, with an active, funny and interesting storyline be more boring than grinding on WoW?

All you saw was the first scene, how can you judge it?  Its like saying a movie is crap from watching the opening credits.

1) Item management is iffy. I don't care for infinite storage, but I do like diversified storage. In Oblivion, you could buy houses and stash stuff in purchased furniture and chests. The one aspect of RPG's that I don't like is excessive item management. Since I'm such a greedy pack rat, it takes me a good 15 minutes to sell off unwanted contents of my inventory every time it fills up, and it slows the game down. The same problem exists in Star Trek Online, only more radically. You can store stuff in your inventory, your bank, your fleet bank or, to a more limited extent, in mail to yourself. I cannot figure out why space mines would be stored in the same cargo space as commodities, data samples, phaser rifles and systems batteries. Instead of a bank back at Starbase, I would much rather have the inventory expanded into different tabs for different kinds of items. This would plug in nicely with the ability to explore your ship, once they finish that. You could actually see your monstrous cargo of photon torpedoes or humanitarian relief stuff.

2) Yeah, cooldown is important. Just get used to swapping through skills, or go back to Diablo II.

Prefer a proper backpack style interface as I obsessively organise my in-game space in most games.

Something like the Witcher's/WoW's system is good. For freaks like me anyway.

Jesus Christ.

Taking an MMO and making it singleplayer has to be the worst game experience I can think of.

This is coming from someone who has played a few of them now. So not biased.

Pro-tip: WoW singleplayer + better graphics + story + loot system for sp gameplay is.....

Diablo 3. Srsly most of WoW's core concepts came from Diablo 2 mp gameplay. Check out the class balancing, skill trees and shit.

Yes, I realise this. This is why I have never finished Diablo 2. As much as I want to, I just get bored to tears by about halfway through Act III.

I am hoping Diablo 3 is more engaging, but I probably wont finish that either. Torchlight is another game of that genre I got bored of half way through.

95% of games I finish, often more than once or with a few alternate half finishes (even MMOs which in this case I am equating finishing to getting to the max level and getting a few pieces of gear). Diablo/Diablo clones? Nope, fall asleep.

Not sure what my point was.

To be honest, when it was under development I was hoping WoW would have a single player game mode so I could keep following the Warcraft storyline without paying into a monthly fee for a game I might not play all that much.

And with the level of interaction and the antisocial attitudes of most players I've encountered, STO might as well be single player too. Sure, you can go back and find amiable chat going on at starbase, but you could do that anywhere online.
