Why would he need to do that? Unless it's specifically blocked by some weird OEM, his motherboard will eat any S775 processor from Celeron D to Core 2 Quad Extreme.

And there are plenty of LGA775 boards that won't take quads. His just isn't one of those.

Hell there are plenty that won't even take a C2D, so just because it's 775 doesn't mean much

Knowing it's a p35 board on the other hand means as long a an updated bios is available it will take any 775 proc.
