As many of you may know, 15'000 NATO troops and Afghan soldiers have been in an offensive against the Taliban in the Helmed province for the past 6 days. So far the Allies are kicking the shit out of the Taliban. 2 top leaders have been captured, and over 20 enemies have been killed. So far only 4 losses on NATO side.

The Taliban has relied on mines and using civilians as shields to kill NATO forces. Also hiding in a building with civilians, which caused the death of 13 innocents while killing 3 Taliban. Such tactics are quite evil and spineless.

The goal of this offensive is to capture the town of Marjah, which houses 80'000 people, as well as the opium fields. It's supposed to get rid of corruption in their government as well.

And above your tomb, the stars will belong to us.

I thought you guys might have an opinion on this. What do you think about the offensive, will it help? Do I really need to ask these questions or do you guys think for yourselves?

I'm sure there's a thread about Afghanistan already, also I dunno why Shifty decided to Anglicise the original name of this operation for the topic title, it'll probably confuse more people than help

Anyway.. I remember reading last time troops went into that area they left after a few days, here's hoping they actually can hold on this time instead of allowing the Taliban back in... I know it's not their fault obviously, but still you have to think who the hell is running this show for dumb shit like that to happen.

Well the advertising for the operation would have two outcomes according to the military. They either wanter the Taliban to reinforce their positions so the NATO forces could get a whole lot of bad guys in one spot, or what's happening now, they all flee so they can easily capture the town then set up defenses.

There's an estimated 1000 Taliban still in the town. The Marines are taking it very slowly clearing every single house 1 by 1 and checking for mines. So far they haven't lose anybody yet. This is how they should have invaded Iraq, slowly and establish security before pushing on.
