I want one.

I read about this shit all the time. full benefits, social security, free office supplies on a credit card with a 25k spending limit. I can pick my hours (IE get in at 6am, wait for office to open at 9, take lunch at 12 and leave at 2). I know there are various departments that have this.

My moms best friend works for the FDIC as a 4 year (estimated) temporary job. She goes around closing banks around the Western US. Gets paid about 100k, gets put in nearly 5 star hotels, and get about 200 dollars PER DAY to go get food. On top of that she gets to choose from about 10 health care plans.

I always thought i wanted to go into business- Fuck that . I want a government job. Between pensions, no SS, and health care- Along with maximum inefficiency. Whats the highest paying college education job? I've heard the most random job titles like "blah blah oversee work payroll manager - 275k" and i feel like the longer the job title, the less you really do.

My friends dad is a "Technical Director of Maneuver Support Center Directorate of Training" at Ft. Leonard Wood, and I'm pretty sure he has a Bachelor's degree and maybe a Masters in Library Science. He makes right around $100,000 with great benefits, although I don't think he gets daily stipends for food, etc. However, he does have some control over stuff the library purchases, and he has the opportunity to bring such things home for personal use...so basically, if he wants to watch a hard-to-find documentary or listen to some rare audio recording (or even if he wants an electronic device such as a Blu-ray player or nice digital camera), he could have the library order it and then he could just use it when he wants. As teenagers we used to play our N64 and PS2 games on a projector he brought home from work for months at a time, back when they cost thousands to purchase new.

He isn't required to travel much, but there is always the possibility that he will have to move to a position in a different state. Regardless, $100,000k + good benefits is a solid salary anywhere, but in states with a low cost of living (like MO), this is basically a dream job. The biggest downside is the fact that he works 10+ hour days, but I get the feeling that those aren't exactly the most stress-filled 10 hours.

Engineering jobs probably pay excellently. So do upper management but you need experience for that. As Canin said, browse the USA Jobs site.

I'd say the biggest benefit to being in Club Fed is that I hear it's almost impossible to get fired, at least for silly reasons.

I don't know where this cocked-up notion that federal employees don't pay into (or, more accurately, waste money in) Social Security comes from. I'm a federal employee and I assure you I give money to retired people every damed payday.
