To see your ping in-game, press Tab for the player list.
Your entry lists your score, kills, deaths and *ping* in milliseconds.

Open the console: press § (the key above Tab, left of 1. Different character on US and SW keyboard).
Type the line. If your current ping is 60, enter the value 0.06.
Press Enter.

If the console returns:

1

you have managed to set the Latency compensation.

Correct?

I tried this tweak last night. The problem is that I changed resolution at the same time to push my system to the limit so I cant tell if I improved or not with latency. The fact is I got owned in the first round but the next one was just great!! I hit everything I aimed for. My mods were resolution pushed to 1920x1200 it is like looking through a window. Things are so clear and sharp, details are incredible, the cross hair is thin like silk and head at >200m have much more details.

As for latency I had the tendency of still leading like I use to. That way I did not hit a thing so I compensated by aiming closer to the target and eventually I got it right. I still have to lead but not a lot. I suspect players not noticing improvement might be because they still lead to much.

I think tonight I will revert to my old resolution and focuse on latency.

Yes, now I confirm, it really works! I aim somewhere, wait until their head touches my sight and then BOOOOOM. They walk on. Then they die a few ms after the BOOOOOM. And that was a head shot.

THANKS DUDE!!

I changed it directly in the configs "out-game", in your BF2 folder: Mods/bf2 there are several *.con files
Can´t remember wich it was but it´s a quick search. There you can set it without theese console typing.
Go in Mods/xpack to change it for SF in the same way...

So in essence, it's not cheating at all... you should think of it as "calibrating your scope for wind and distance"

I read the thread on BF2Tracker. They say it only needs to be set once, unless your ping changes... So if you play on another server you have to change it everytime?
you set it after you get in to a server after you start BF2...then, if you don't quit, but change servers, it stays the same value...so check your ping on that server, press ~, and replace your old walue with the new exact server specific ping.

heh, and i thought all along the programmers added in wind so we'd have to deal with kentucky windage.  apparently, there is no wind and conditions are perfect.  so can anyone list the catches to this?  such as, do i have to put this in every time i load up BF2 (i saw the post about not each round), change servers, or what?

someone with connections to EA, *hint hint Mr. Skywalker*, should mention to them to automatically configure this.  i was always wondering why i had considerably better accuracy in single player.

You don't have to enter it every time. Only enter it when you go to a new server with a different latency. The setting is stored in: C:\Program Files\EA GAMES\Battlefield 2\mods\bf2\Settings\Usersettings.con

What about someone turning off shadows. That is an in game setting quite close to cheating. The fact is those settings are for someone suffering from hardware issues.
I always feel when I play cause I have shadows off, but if I tried to play with them on, BF2 would eat my children...

I always was like, Legal unfair advantage, but I'm sure someone with a computer decent enough to run it with shadows wouldn't really care anyway. We can all be rich 13 year olds.

either .57 or .057

It would be .057  but NOT .57 which would be 10 times greater a ping

It seems like this option could definately help snipers, but other people/classes/guns wouldn't be affected as much?

Does anyone know what the Default is for this setting so that I can change it back if I wanted to?

Can anybody actually say in their opinion this actually helps?

Like some guy above said placebo affect I'm kinda thinking that...

I like to snipe alot, so tempted to try it

P.S would 0.00 be default?

reade every post in that thread you will see positive comments. I have also given the BF2tracker, http://bf2tracker.com/thread.php?threadid=10250, thread link with other comments as well.

Yes default is 0,00

0.005 or 0.019. Not worth the change with that kind of latency in my opinion. Leave it at 0.

Somebody said this setting controls how frequently the server updates your game information. If this is true, then is it possible that if to many people change this setting, it put strain on the server?
