As to the Hueys, I'm surprised they are still around. FE Warren had one that was in Vietnam (~2 years ago).

To be a commissioned officer in any of the services you need to attend one of the academies, do ROTC, do OCS (which requires a degree) or get a direct commission (which is for things like doctors and chaplains, who have degrees anyway).
