They work well. I've got a tubular red dot on my semi Ruger .22.

Fuck if I remember. Haven't fired the thing in ages. Very useful for rat genocide though.

put a box and a half of PMC bronze 55gr FMJ through it

i was only at a local gravel pit so the max i could shoot was 150m

but it was shooting half inch groups... i think it could be a bit tighter but i would need a rest or at least a bipod for that... prone unsupported on the cold ground is bad
sounds like you got a shooter.

that's what i thought too

can't wait to get out after some coyotes with it

i need a bipod

preferably one with long-ish legs (adjustable of course) since i'll be sitting back against a tree for most of my coyote hunts, and shooting freehand at a smallish target that's probably moving... i wouldn't want to shoot freehand

a poor shot on a target is one thing, a poor shot on an animal is different

shooting through hard packed snow seems to be great for keeping shit intact

the 2 on the right hit some the frozen sand underneath and i couldnt find any of the lead cores.... but the one on the left only hit a small pebble and then popped out of the snow.  i found it about 80 feet away on top of the hard crust

the bottom pic is just a .22lr obviously, found it just on the other side of the bank laying on the top of the snow

could probably have found a bunch more if i had more time to look, it was getting pretty dark when we packed up

Here is a steel target I made. The damaged shot is from a 223. The target is for pistol only, but I had to see what a rifle would do. I can repair it.

Every time a bullet hits the steel you can hear it. You can quickly spray paint it so the next shots are seen.

Steel target with mild steel plate. Target plate is 12"w x 20"h and 1/2" thick. Plate is angled 30 degrees.

Before shooting.

After shooting. Notice the line cut in the dirt from the deflected bullet fragments.
https://i127.photobucket.com/albums/p123/west-phoenix-az/Guns/th_Steel_Target_02.jpg

The handgun rounds (9mm & 45acp) didn't damage the plate, but the 223 sure did. The plate was flipped over after hitting it with the 223. This picture was taken after the plate was flipped over.

Close up of the 223 damage.
https://i127.photobucket.com/albums/p123/west-phoenix-az/Guns/th_Steel_Target_04.jpg

Bullet fragments recovered from the dirt. Even though these look like they might be the most lung shreddingest bullets on the market, they are just regular FMJ's.

This is my new baby rifle:

https://static.bf2s.com/files/user/8183/IMG_0231.JPG

It's a Springfield M1A standard with a 20 round mag firing .308 or 7.62mm NATO.  Basically it's the M14 for civilians to the point where the owner's manual is the army maintenance manual.
