You get your car repaired it costs X dollars. You get your car repaired under insurance it costs you nothing (unless you have an excess to pay) and it costs the insurance company X + Y dollars.
Insurance repair centres charge 2-3 times the amount a normal garage would. The same is true for all insurance costs.
I know when I've been working at places doing repairs for insurance, the quotes for anything being paid for through insurance are always inflated.
I am pretty sure you go to whatever shop, get it repaired, and insurance reimburses you. At least here. I don't know what an insurance repair center is.
They apparently think the entire world works like the UK...hence why they think the entire world's health care would work the same under the UK's style of UHC.
But it's
arrogant if an American takes that approach.
They don't require the car be inspected before the repairs? They don't evaluate the cost of repairs for themselves?
They just let you take your car to a garage and get it repaired, then reimburse you?
If that is what happens then it is a stupid system open to massive abuse. If not, then you essentially have the same system.
An insurance repair centre is just a place where all of this can get done at once. Rather than waiting for weeks for an engineer from the insurance company to come out to a local garage near where you live, they just do it all at a central depot. If you want to get it repaired elsewhere, then you are free to - and it will work out cheaper.
