Easy. We emasculated our human intelligence capabilities.

It's a lot easier to identify and track trends in technology of nation-states than it is to find a single dude who doesn't use any form of technology in mountainous areas. It's the nature of intelligence capabilities.

Its also a lot harder if you keep a lot of troops back so you can invade Iraq and bribe militiamen to do their work instead, who - surprisingly - are open to bribes from the other side too.

Its also a bit dumb to send your ferrets down a hole and then realise you can't catch or follow the rabbit when it comes out.

I forgot how versed you are in intelligence capabilities, Dilbert. Go ahead and tell us how easy it is to do all that stuff.

I know its dumb to just run in without a thought-out plan.

Anyhow, the US has failed to capture Bin Laden.
If a guy on a donkey can outwit the one and only superpower then yeah, I know more about intel than some pentagoon.

Anyway, why would I need intel when we have wiki

That post says more about your understanding of so many things than I ever could...at least to anyone who actually does have any understanding of those things.

Intel had nothing to do with it, it was lame tactics - or a deliberate plan to let him escape.

Whatever, the US failed in the most critical task it has set itself for a while, or at least since it failed over 9/11/

Bah, the US knew to within 5,000 metres where Bin Laden was and failed to catch him.

You just fail at admitting when you fail.

- no soviet union
- not 540000 us ground troops
- no cold war
- no containment attempt
- religious issues
- far fewer losses on both sides

So, you think the US should have...
A) bombed 25 square kilometers
B) instantly put up 20km of fencing
C) magically dropped a bomb on his exact location
D) profit?

I'll give you a hint as to how hard it is to find someone.  During a mil-sim event, it took 80 people two hours to find a guy, in about 500 acres.  We only found him because he walked past one of our patrols.  This was in moderate terrain, good weather, during the day, and we knew approximately what he was wearing...and he was trying to be found by the other team.

Sure, the US is a superpower.  Do you expect us to swarm 2,000 people to particular spot in Afhanistan in 2 hours?

And please point out where I said that.

And define "we", please. And define success while you're at it--you surely must know what success is if you know what failure is.

I don't think Afghanistan is anything like Vietnam at all. Vietnam was a product of the cold war and communist containment, an aggressive stand in a place where the U.S. had no specific interest in the area, and no reason for direct military involvement for anything other than enforcing policy.

Afghanistan is a NATO offensive against a nation whose government was harbouring and supporting forces that directly attacked other nations, including NATO members, on several occasions. The U.S. and other NATO members are not in Afghanistan to tear up a piece of the planet to make a political stand; they're there to fight the people who carried, and continue to carry out attacks against other nations, as well as the people who support them. North Vietnam was never going to attack the U.S. if the U.S. hadn't entered South Vietnam. The Taliban government and the organisations that it supports clearly is another matter all-together.

Is it a military headache like Vietnam was? Perhaps. This time, though, it's a necessary headache.

I see, so summarising your position:

9/11 Attacks - Intel failure

Bin Laden escaped - Intel Failure

Iraq WMDs - Intel failure.

Out of Cheerios - Intel failure

Bullshit. The above were analysis, policy and implementation failures. The intel was fine but ignored or misinterpreted.
You just don't want to admit it because that would be admitting the Pentagone and your fellow Pentagoons failed.

You're summarizing nothing.

Taking complex things and making two-word "summaries" out of them accomplishes nothing but proving you lack a fundamental understanding of what you are talking about.

Then you repeat it.
