My favourite formation would probably be a 4-1-2-1-2, carried out defensively in the sweeper-oriented manner that Nesta, Costacurta, Cannavaro and Maldini did it, offensively like Messi and Eto'o did, with the backing of Deco from behind, with very aggressive wings and the traditionally defensive mid pushed farther up into a central playmaking position.
