So the FDA banned tobacco products that contain any flavoring besides menthol. They say it's to stop kids from smoking.

That's just bullshit.

Thoughts?

The only tobacco I smoke is flavored tobacco. Sure I won't be smoking tobacco anymore, which is healthy, but since when the fuck could the government force my hand? That seems un constitutional and I am outraged.

What's next? The ban on flavored liquor because that makes kids want to
become alcoholics?
Consumption of cigarettes produces a negative externality on society.. ie. a cost burden to society. In order to correct for these, the government is well within its rights to tax and regulate the sale of cigarettes.

Good job by the FDA.

Is that not my own choice to make? I've been educated that smoking can possibly give me cancer and yet I've made a rational decision to continue smoking. It's my body and my life, not yours.

Our country recently imposed a tax on the "alco-pops" to make them cost more so teens are less likely to buy them (or as many).

It's like they raise the price of those to make the teens buy the harder stuff at the same price. https://img.photobucket.com/albums/v83/rac_goshawk/crazy.gif
That's because the government, for some reason, failed to realise that alcopop's and spirits are nealy perfect substitutes for teens who just want to get drunk.

Vodka cruisers are getting expensive, fuck it, I'll just buy some pub squash and vodka...

I don't smoke around non-smokers. Hell, I couldn't if I wanted to anyway, smoking is banned in public places here. But I didn't need laws passed to tell me that smoking in bars around non-smokers was a discourteous thing to do. I never did it even when living in the south where there are still smoking sections in some restaurants. I'd rather go outside and not force people to breathe my second hand smoke.

If I'm outside and in mixed company I will stand downwind so they aren't forced to breathe my exhalations. It's just the right thing to do. So, after all is said and done I am only causing harm to myself, not others.

They were banned so much and so long ago here, that I didn't even know you could get flavoured cigs until a few years ago when I found out they had Menthol cigs. Even then, I only found out last year or so that you could get other flavours. In a way, I'm glad we don't have strawberry and pineapple cigs. Fuck that, everyone would be addicted then.

A lot more than the number of people who don't. It's just like anything else, it's always the minority that people remember. How many times have you had someone purposefully blow smoke in your face? Now count up the times where people were courteous and made it a point to stand in a way that you wouldn't smell the smoke.

I smoke menthols.
I used to smoke them alot with my mates a year or so ago. Good stuff. Never got addicted to cigs either. Stopped doing it though, well I didn't really stop, more like other people stopped so I couldn't bum a smoke anymore, and hell if I'm going to pay for a whole pack.

Good for you. I honestly wish I never started. It's been ten years now and it's difficult as all hell to quit once you're addicted. That being said, I'll be damned if I let someone else dictate my life decisions for me.

Hang on actually I just remembered they haven't banned flavoured tobacco here. Maybe only for Cigs. Because you can still get over 9000 flavours for Shisha (Hookah)

Probably the same for the US. If it was an outright ban that would be silly

Stuff like that would be clearly marketed towards younger people. I'm surprised it took them this long to ban it for Ciggies.

Never noticed anyone standing in a way so i wouldn't smell it (which lets face it doesn't work anyway cos it stinks).  Anyway its not the smell i am worried about it's the 4000 chemicals/toxins/carcinogens you're polluting my breathing space with.  What are you doing about those?

But this notion of smokers being courteous is a myth, smokers who respect the wishes of non smokers are few and far between.  There was a reason it was brought into law because being courteous was optional and thus you were forced outside with your filth.

Well, next time you're around a smoker pay attention and see if they don't move downwind so that you aren't breathing their smoke.

I think you are talking about black and milds flavored cigars marine. This ban affects things like clove cigs.
