I don't know this girl well enough to judge whether or not she will become attached to me if we have sex. For me it may be a one time thing and no big deal, but for her it might mean I want to start a relationship. Which I do not at this point, but I have not ruled it out. I'm cautious because she is someone I will have to be around, not just a random pick-up and throw-away kind of girl. I also do not know her well enough to ask directly. I fear I may be stuck either playing it slow and missing my chance, or going for it and fucking up on a grand scale.
EDIT- I should make that more clear. I cannot ask her because in offering the idea of a relationship I may scare her away from the one time sex, as she knows it crossed my mind. If I ask her and present the idea of a relationship, she may be so overjoyed in me having thought about it that it will be awkward for me to turn her down at that point. If that clears up my frame of mind at all.

Kimmmetc's advice is right on the money. The longer you leave it the more likely a relationship will be forged. As to not knowing whether a one-time fling will turn into a relationship - you don't know, that's modern-day sexual relationships, you don't always know what's going to happen, you just have to deal with it when it does. Fun innit.
