Legislation Silvio 'Shithead' Berlusconi introduced that made him free from prosecution has been deemed unconstitutional by the Italian Supreme Court. A sad chapter in the history of Italy is over and they can now hold their heads up high from their previous status as 'worrisome laughing stock banana republic' of the EU. This man is quite possibly one of the slimiest and most detestable humans in all of Europe.

Yeah, alot of fucked up shit happens in the political ongoings in Italy, giving a guy immunity just because he's PM would put Italy right in the same league with all those African countries on the other side of the Med.

How the hell this guy keeps getting voted in, either he rigs the elections or I dunno

What a pathetic piece of trash. Major props to the Constitutional Court for not compromising the principles of their consitution. He needs to govern without worrying about the rules? How stupid does he think people are?

A leader who needs to make a law exempting himself from the law should not be leading at all.  How the hell did this guy get into power?

My Italian teacher once told us Silvio Berlusconi is Italy's version of George Bush.

Did you tell your italian teacher that she was a twit for discussing politics in a language class?

He honestly seems worse than George Bush, someone like Silvio would be impeached within a few weeks

Last time I did a 'language' class culture was discussed quite a bit.

Teachers aren't supposed to inject their own politics into classroom discussions. Inserting Bush's name into a discussion about how terrible Berlusconi is is a form of brainwashing. I would say the same if it was a teacher telling her kids how terrible Obama is. It doesn't have any place in school.

In general thats true but y'know it's not brainwashing if she only said it once is it? And I'd imagine the kids were probably pretty old if they were discussing Berlusconi and Bush so maybe they can, y'know, just make up their own minds? I'll bet in the states there's a lot of stuff in history books and so on which is very selective and also 'brainwashing'. There sure is in some countries...

oh, and it's no secret that Bush and Berlusconi were pretty close personally and policy-wise so it's not exactly a complete lie to say Berlusconi is Italy's version etc etc, is it? More factual than anything. Plus, it's only negative if you think Bush was/is a complete tosser.

plus, it would be a stupid lesson if you were never allowed to offer opinions of the prime minister of the country whose language you were learning, imo. I teach English and if my students asked me what I thought of BLair or Brown I wouldn't be afraid to tell them, so long as I prefaced it with 'This is just my opinion...'. No prob.

If it were a history class or a political science class or a current events class--or any other class where the topic of recent world politics were relevant to the curriculum--then it wouldn't be an issue. The fact was, it was a language class. Where the curriculum is the instruction of the Italian language.

Or if you think Berlusconi is a complete tosser. The fact is that it's a language class, not a political science class.

You should preface it with "I'll tell you my personal opinion after class, since this isn't a political science class."

well its my opinion that you one good way of using language is to discuss the country whose language you are using. Still don't see what the problem is whether you give an opinion in class or out of it. It's an opinion.
