I got my Nikon D60 about 4months ago so been getting to grips with it and messing around. I've not posted any pictures before so go easy on me.

Point and shoots have their place/benefits. Most professionals still carry one when they shoot outside of the studio.
They just spend more time in post processing with P&S shots .
