So, Bf2s

My family may be getting some new computers soon.

I think we may get 3, one for me primarily(which will be used for gaming), one for my sister(mostly just internet, but also some lighter, older games), and maybe one for my mom(mostly email).

So I was pricing out some stuff on newegg, and I wanted some suggestions.

This is what I have put together so far-

Gaming:
i7 920
Gigabyte x58 ATX mobo
6 gb RAM
1 TB Samsung HDD(not really necessary, but not much more than the 640gb ones I was looking at from WD)
probably GTX 275/285(not set, waiting on HD 5000 prices/GT300 prices)
HAF 932
850 W Corsair Modular PSU

Sister:
i5
Gigabyte P55 ATX mobo
4-8gb DDR3
GTX 260 Core216/GTX 275
CM 590/690
640 GB WD HDD
Corsiar 520 Modular PSU

Mom(not really sure) either similar to sister's or maybe this, as she doesn't do all that much:
e8400
Freezer 7 Pro
4GB ddr2 1066
9800GTX+/GTX 260 Core 216/HD 4670-4850
GA-ep45-ud3r mobo
Corsair 520 Modular PSU
CM 590/690

All will have either Vista or 7 Home Premium

The other thing is: My mom already has trouble with the UI in XP, especially when I changed it to the 7 Transformation Pack for a while.
She can usually figure out XP, but idk if she will have a lot of trouble with Vista/7, but I assume so.

Is there any way to make it look more similar to XP or something?

I would like for my friends to be able to come over and play BF2 without having to bring their computers, that's why I was going for GFX cards instead of Integrated for mom...

Why do you need three new ones?
Most efficient option:

You get a new one.
Your old one -> Sister - she can play her old games.
Sisters PC -> Your mum - she can continue with XP
Profit.

Stick a fresh HD in the old ones and do a rebuild to sweeten the deal.

What does your mom and sister need with graphics cards that powerful, build them something sleek for those prices.
example:
Lian Li PC-Q07  79.99  http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product.as … 6811112227
ZOTAC GF9300-D-E LGA 775 NVIDIA GeForce 9300 HDMI Wi-Fi Mini ITX Motherboard  149.99 http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product.as … 6813500022
OCZ 4GB (2 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 800 (PC2 6400) 63.99 http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product.as … 6820227248
Sunbeam PSU-ECO650-SMT-US 650W ATX12V 80 PLUS Certified Modular Active PFC Power Supply 83.99 + $20 rebate http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product.as … 6817709022
Western Digital Caviar Black WD5001AALS 500GB 74.99 http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product.as … 6822136320
Intel Core 2 Quad Q8200 2.33GHz 4MB L2 Cache 169.99 http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product.as … 6819115055
some samsung dvd writer 30 bucks
Sorry that was newegg.ca, the prices should be slightly lower on newegg.com
get windows 7 and make the same in red for your sister.

also get them this keyboard cause it will go with the lian li case nicely
Enermax Aurora
http://www.directcanada.com/products/?s … re=ENERMAX

Oh and this vid card for your sis: ASUS EAH4670/DI/512MD3 Radeon HD 4670 at 77 bucks

Also what dilbert said makes more sense, but I get that you want to build some cool systems

And for yours get some good thermal paste like arctic silver 5 and a 5850 will out perform a 285 for cheaper at the moment.

If those are for email and light gaming, then my current setup shouldn't be used for anything except Chip's Challenge.

For some odd reason the 1066mhz was priced the same as 800mhz on NEWEGG.

At least someone has ears, you obviously don't. The stock coolers suck so badly and are loud fuckers that the 20 bucks for aftermarket cooler is very easily justified.

And the point of the nice components was that I want to set them up to fold when not being used, plus still being somewhat capable a couple years from now.

And to those who were saying hand down the old PC's, we only have this one working, all the other ones we may have laying around are old, I think Pentium 3's with integrated GFX and Windows 2000 or older.

Our current one is pretty old, and a RAM upgrade would be around $70(at the least, to upgrade Gfx, we'd have to replace the PSU, so it is pretty much worth it to just replace it.

Current PC Specs:
Pentium D 945 @ 3.4 ghz
Intel D101GGC mobo
1 GB DDR @ around 200 mhz (2 512 mb sticks)
GeForce 6600 LE
Nearly full 250 GB WD HDD
Cheap budget case w/ exhaust fan

My sister will be going into High School next year, and she is going to want to use Photoshop and stuff like that for art type classes, so I figured a quad core would be good for that down the road.

That would definitely work for my mom.

Total budget of probably around $4000-5500 for all. My current setup in the OP is about split like this: $2k for the i7, ~$1100-1200 each for the others.

I checked and was surprised that the difference in price between i5 and C2D was so minimal. I can actually get an i5 cheaper than C2D @ MicroCenter.
