Part of what annoys me about WOW is that I really enjoyed Star Wars Galaxies, but I have yet to find an MMO that I consider to be anywhere near as much fun. Ganking was the only thing I really enjoyed, and I played a rogue so that made things a lot easier...I could even get out when my friends were getting fucked by people ~5 levels above us. You've just got to keep at it, tbh. It's the sort of game where you get out of it exactly what you put in.
Play a few classes on the trial to level 10-15 or so, see what tickles your fancy, and then knuckle down with it. When you find some friends or server-buddies to play with, it all becomes far more enjoyable. Endgame is the best it has ever been for 'new' players and casual weekend-warriors.
