Does the barrier between a woman's blood system and her mammary glands prevent alcohol from being transferred to her infant?

Are there any studies about this?

Well as a father of a 5 week old that my GF is breast feeding my GF was told by nurses to "express" her milk the day before going out on the lash as the alcohol does transfer to the baby & kids up to the age of 5 should avoid alcohol as much as possible as their bodies cannot process it as of yet & could cause blood poisoning.

I have just been to a bunch of ante natal classes that said it does effect the infant. My wife is dying to have a drink though, so we may have to feed the baby a few hours before it.

Hmmm,.. if it does affect the infant, does anyone know how long it takes for the milk to be produced and how long it is stored? Because e.g. if no new milk is produced untill the current batch is consumed, not feeding the infant for a set period of time after consuming alcohol, would be pointless altogether.

In can have an effect. Although the bloodstreams of mother and infant are not tied together.

That is why they say to pump it out.

is your getting drunk really so important to risk damaging an infant?

use formula or pump out your milk beforehand.

this is not difficult.
